Bicycle alarms

Hi i have had two types of bicycle alarms on my bicycle and one got stolen off the bike tonight. The one that got stolen is a wireless one . The security dude that was nearby said it was going off for a long time but my understanding is that they quieten down as soon as you stop moving the bike. Thats what my other alarm did that was similar. It just didnt have a remote. Uploaded both pics. What i dont also get is how this security guard who says that he heard the alarm for ages said he didnt see the person who had to have a screwdriver to undo two screws then squeeze it off the stem. I think he was lying. I was a couple of metres away from the entrance of a nightclub and they all saw me walk in after i locked the bike. I am a pretty noticeable type of person. Theres no way someone just ripped the alarm off in annoyance as there would have been bits of it around. There was nothing anywhere. Club goers do not carry screwdrivers and there was no sign of the bike being tampered with in any other way. Anyway anyone else got experience with these type of alarms? Do they just keep going off? I have found when i come outside after being in a club or whatever premises the alarm is quiet and i turn it off from being active. I have heard it from a distance on a rare occasion and seen someone near the bike on those times

A little alarm like that probably has only a tiny piezo speaker that may sound loud and piercing up close but won't carry far. And it's probably easy to defeat with a generic universal remote that can be programmed to handle hundreds of devices.

And regarding nightclub security guards and bouncers, I wouldn't trust 'em farther than I could throw them -- which is not at all. Many of 'em make extra cash as police informants, tipsters to thieves, and tipping off paparazzi in celebrity-heavy cities.

One cold winter night several years ago my motorcycle konked out. Never could figure out why but that bike didn't like cold or wet weather. I locked it to the nearest fixed structure I could find and went inside a shady looking joint to use the phone (this was pre-cellphone era). While waiting for my wife to pick me up I struck up a conversation with the gal at the front desk and the security guy. For some reason they must have decided I was an okay guy. She called her boyfriend and told him not to steal my motorcycle, which I was going to leave there overnight. It was just a routine thing, a vehicle theft ring associated with the employees at this joint, preying on their own customers.

Nowadays when I'm bicycling, especially with casual social group rides, we only visit bars that are bicycle friendly and let us bring the bikes inside or park on the patio. I usually don't even lock up my bike because it's only a few feet away.

Oh ok i didnt know the name of the type of speaker and no one i know has a bike alarm in sydney that i know of. Oh really any remote gee.
Yes i agree about the security dudes. I told him to his face i didnt trust him. Nothing added up about what he said.
Oh wow thats quite a story. Thanks for that information.
Yes sydney doesnt have a great bike culture yet...maybe one day. I take mine inside my place though. Usually my bike is right outside of where i am...I must admit the street where my bike was on this occasion was around trouble makers. A lot of bars are there and trouble makers. I really underestimated the idiot security dudes. I made a police report nearby so who knows what will happen. At the end of the day whoever stole the alarm and no just tampered with it. So theft is what i said to the police. The person needed a screwdriver to get the thing off....really suss
