Specialized Sport Wireless computer

I bought a like-new Sirrus yesterday that came with a Specialized Sport wireless computer. Switched out the battery, it turned on and I set the time and everything. When I took my bike for a ride the computer wouldn't pick up a speed or mileage. Not a big deal if the computer is shot, but just thought I'd ask about it!

Bikes: frankenbike based on MKM frame

IIRC, there needs to be a sensor on the front fork, which sends a signal when a magnet passes under it. One common problem is that the magnet and sensor get too far apart. Rather than fool around trying to get the gap correct, and then losing it on the first ride, get some small neodymium magnets from a hardware store and attach one or more to the 'puter's magnet. Then the gap becomes easy to set and keep.

I checked the magnet out and for some reason the screw does not fit the magnet. I can slide the screw in and out with ease. Not sure why that would be, but if I find another short screw to fit the magnet that should fix the problem, right? I waved the magnet across the sensor and the computer picked it up right away.

Do you mean it's stripped? If so, is it the male or female part that's stripped? Otherwise, I can't picture what you're describing.

All you should need, though, is a way of attaching a string enough magnet to a spoke that is close enough to the sensor. The manual should be available on Specialized's website.
