I use a different model of Garmin than you, so perhaps yours is different than mine.
But on mine when I have the direction of travel set up (not North set to be up), my triangle never moves, only the map under the triangle moves. Thus, I know exactly where the triangle is, it is always in the middle of the bottom half of the screen.
Is your GPS different? As you ride, does your position (the triangle) on the screen vary?
I got used to knowing where my position was during the first few minutes that I was using it. My screen is a bit hard to see in the photo, the reflection of the sky above impairs the view of it in the photo, but the triangle position is clear, and it is always in the same place.

Yes. I have it set not North. It’s still disorienting when glancing down in bright light or shadow to see only blue. Take a look at the pic above on your phone, not a desktop, and tell me that can’t be improved with a different color triangle.

Since the triangle is always in the same place on the screen, why don't you paint an orange triangle over it with nail polish? We'd all sleep better at night .

I was considering a similar solution. Would not work as well for North Up which is useful in some circumstances
the ability to change triangle color from one that doesn’t closely match water would be a better solution.

If your biggest gripe about that GPS unit is the color of the triangle, sounds to me like you should be quite happy with it. If you are not, quit trying to use it now, it won't make you happy no matter what you do.

Some people are only happy when they're complaining.
