I'm finally getting the hang of Insta360 Studio. I tried the AI tracking feature this time, and all I had to do was draw a rectangle around the object in question (in this case the overtaking car), and the computer did the rest. Overall, the 360 camera is pretty good at showing passing distance.

Yeah, not a lot of room there, but at least it didn't seem deliberately aggressive. A lot of people just have poor judgement, probably because they've never been in a bike seat and have no idea how it feels to have a car pass 3ft from their shoulder.

Anyway, I just picked up an X5 the other day for an entirely different purpose, but maybe I'll take it out on a club ride some day and see what kind of cool footage it can capture. I don't know that I'll go helmet mount, but the location is clearly useful for capturing relative location to other objects in the field of view. Amazing tech, these 360 cams...

I uploaded a 360 clip to YouTube from my ride last Friday. It seems to work. Some portions are sped up to reduce the length. Thought you one interested. Hope the link works. I can scroll around using the touch screen on my phone.

What's your take on Insta360 Studio? One annoying thing I've encountered is that the playback massively stutters with 8K/30 video. That's even if I disable Ultra HD Playback and enable hardware acceleration. I confirmed it's the software and not my PC's hardware (Core i9 11900K, 32GB DDR4 RAM, 2TB SSD, Radeon 6800XT GPU), because I watched my system resources in real time while playing video, and neither the CPU nor GPU spiked in usage. What also confirmed this is after I took a raw 30-minute file and trimmed it down to a minute-ish, exported that clip as a 360 video, and imported it back into Studio. The playback with a short clip was flawless. Insta360 didn't optimize their software to handle those long duration videos.

It is a little cumbersome and I have issues with it locking up the app for large projects over an hour. I fixed this by changing the proxy to 480. Then I installed the latest version yesterday and it reset the proxy setting for the project back to no proxy. It also locked twice and then I got a blue screen. When it ran it was lagging. There was a warning I need not heed about the latest version not fully compatible with some AMD systems. I only have 16GB RAM so may see if I can find some more memory. But I think I will need to go back a version. I am running WIN11 with MSI 450M Pro VHD with Ryzen 5 3400 w. Radeon Graphics on beard the MB. Not a real graphics set up but so far worked. Not fast. The sound can get choppy when working on the file. The export files is good.

I did see when working on a project there are several Insta 360 Studio Browser processes running. Funny I opened a project and it was lagging but after a bit while typing here it runs fairly smooth. Voice is not choppy. I need to play with the Preferences. Hardware Acceleration I only have Auto checked. Codec all is checked except Ultra HD Preview. Before the update I had unchecked the Enable CUDA which I think helped.

I also use the the APP on my Ipad Air 11. The AI seem to work fairly well on it. I use an Apple Pen and it is not so back but not as versatile and the Studio.

Edit: I also run two SSDs. A 1 TB for the system and 2TB for the programs. I did this years ago for mapping.

Edit Again. For CPU usage I noticed when the project was open my CPU usage with 95 to 100 percent when playing and about 75 percent when paused. In media with not media the CPU usage dropped to less than 30 percent. When I open a file in Media the CPU usage jumps to 50%. Not sure what this means.

camera work while cycling is fun & interesting. the challenge is finding the right application. meaning OK this is cool but so what it's just a guy riding his bike, so what? not knocking it, I've done so many videos, but it comes down to why bother? 1st step is obviously getting the gear, mastering using it, but then applying the features & benefits?

Using stills instead of video, but I've seen some trails on Google Street View, which I find helpful to know what I'm getting into before I ride there.

For most of us it's about having evidence when something bad happens.

yes! I've done this to see where dirt trails intersect paved roads. then I turn around to look at the trail at that spot

good example of the challenge drivers face. I try to explain to my Wife & kids that they can slow down & wait until there's more room to pass. it's a foreign notion to drivers to slow down & wait until it's safer to pass. they just don't get it
