I am convinced enough to make an online order soon,my brand new Trek is going back to the dealer for a replacement dued to shipping damage, see my other posts. My question is,i assumed the black square pouch is for the batteries, so where do you guys mount it, is the nylon strape use for secure the pack on the top tube?

under top tube, or on seatstay/above brake arch

here is a tip. if you have the AA version put batteries in pouch with the
battery lead clip down. this helps prevent accidental unclipping of the
9-volt style clip.

I have just recieved the tail light and can't figure out how those 2 nylon velcro straps works, one is about an inch wide and 8 '' long, the other is small and narrow...can someone post a pic or 2 for me,,thanks a lot, just trying to install it right.

The small, narrow strap is -- I think -- for holding the batteries more snugly in the battery pack. I haven't used it with mine, though.

The bigger strap is for mounting the pack to your bike. I have my headlight pack hanging under the stem, and I used to put the taillight pack between the seat rails.

That tail light is awesome,i put it next to my wallyworld $7 blinkie light on a tripod at saddle level, set both on highest strobe effect and viewed them from a distance about 1/4 mile away, what a shame of me to compare these two units,,i didnt realized my money was well spent untill i witnessed the result. For those who doesnt have one, please get it,your personal welfare is in danger if you dont have one.

What do you use to power the Nova? I could not figure it out from their website.

Four in our group today were riding North on Highway 3.
A Large Black car pulled in behind us and kept beeping his horn.
Sharon got out her cell phone to call the police.
Dave stopped to talk to the guy.

Two of us have Dinotte tail lights.
The guy works security for the county and Wanted to Know What on earth Those Bright Light Are.

I'm very dense. Please spell it out for me in small words. I could only see that the light runs on 12 volts, but could not find an offering of a bicycle sized battery pack or any battery pack for that matter.

You are Bob.
Looks they sell for autos, boat, motorcycles. trucks. Not Bicycles.
Might work if you had a car battery on your P3

Actually, while a car battery would work, using one is a BAD idea. Car batteries are not meant for deep discharges, and using it in such a manner would kill it before too long. Look into getting a marine "deep-discharge" battery instead.

Speaking of which, I was wondering if anyone has taken a water bottle and modified it by inserting a series of batteries to get 12 V (say with 10 NiMH AAs)?

And so it goes with cheap bicycle lights, flashlights turned into bicycle lights, etc.

Sounds like a lot of weight no matter which route you go when a setup requires 12 V.

I have three of those! They are small, but man they are bright! Set to strobe and look directly into the lights, it will hurt your eyes!!! I just might pick up a few more of those from Wal-Mart and attach to my panniers (when they arrive).

I'm definitely going to get the DiNotte 140 (sending out my order today), but these cheap Wal-Mart lights are ok, and they last forever! I've never had anything go wrong with them, and they have all been dropped, sometimes while riding down the street.

I don't know how many hours I get from the rechargeable batteries, but the Duracell disposables do last for a long time ....

When you get the new light, put that and the wallyword blinkie 2gether and aim them straight, view them from a distance of 1/4 mile or whatever, and you will see which one is really blinding you.I would go for the rechargable batteries, save money on the long run, they make 15/30 mins chargers now.

I forgot to mention something very important about these Wal-Mart and other similar lights. While they are ok in the dark, they are absolutely worthless in the daytime!!!

You could have 50 of those kind of cheap lights on your bike in daylight, and they are still totally worthless ... !!!

Got My DiNotte 140 Taillight ... !!!

I installed my DiNotte 140 taillight last week. Man, that is the brightest bicycle taillight I've ever seen! Highly visible even in daylight.

That is an amazing video and an amazing commute!
Highway 195-you are brave!
How far is the commute?
What were you using for the front light........looks as bright as my P7 combo - both being on bright.

I use my Dinotte 140 rear light and everyone at work tells me that I am VERY visible from a mile a way!!
I use the three quick brights followed by the dim and two back up 5 LED Trek flashers as backup..........

Anyone who hits me is aiming for me!

I did about 20 miles on the highways this morning in conditions like this (heavy snow plus fog with ~1/2 mile visibility). It was definitely a good day to be packing the Nova. The DiNotte 140 would be my second choice.

How do you like the panniers on the front? I have mine mounted in rear.

Thanks

Panniers are best placed on the rear to allow you the most control of the handlebars.
HOWEVER, perhaps in the snow (blizzard) they may give you some more steering control, but I doubt it.

I use this light on my helmet. It used to be what I used on my rack but then I got a SuperFlash, which is a little brighter.

For $9, however, this Bell is a really good investment. It is very bright and noticeable, and if you are on a budget and need some blink, it's perfect. I totally recommend them.

I had one on my helmet, but the clip broke. They are ok at night, but if you can afford to spend more, buy somthing better ....
