Tail Light Mounting?

I wondered if anyone had a solution for mounting taillights using just the belt clip. You'd think it would be simple to attach it to the mounting bands attached to seat bags or some cycling jackets (Endura Gridlock). However these thin straps consistently measure at approx. .5mm and the clearance for the clip is 5.0 mm. This amount of "slack" causes the light to rotate right off the thin fabric strap. The taillight I'm referring to is the Nightrider Cheery Bomb. I've tried taking up the slack with old inner tubes, but it's still not secure for a long bumpy ride. I have a large Jandd seat bag and Trek oval seat tubing (2008 trek 6.5), so a seat post/seat tube mounting is not practical. Any thoughts?

attaching to a cloth strip is no good anyway, the light never points in the right direction. I've never seen a light mounted on a cloth strip pointing the correct direction, helmet, bag, whatever.

I put a small zip tie on to hold the light in place and have yet to have a problem

My Mars4 pointed perfectly on the MTB ... until I rearranged the contents of the seatbag. Now it sucks.
The Mars lights have very good retention and need some persuasion to come off.

I hard mounted the matching clip to the bike using (holed) strapping from the hardware store.

I also mount a 2nd unit on my left drop bar. the last 2 pictures show another drop bar strobe that I have since replaced with the 2nd picture showing my PB SF. sorry for the crummy cell phone pic. btw: I really like having 2 good strobes and I feel the one on the left drop bar helps get me some courtesy room from the passing cars.

Bikes: Surly LHT 52cm Nice Bicycle I think.

You can also mount a tail light on the rear rack with a small L bracket.I did mine this way and it will not come off.
