Mount tail lights on front fork

Anyone try mounting tail lights on the front fork. I'm thinking the left leg will give an adequate angle for drivers behind me (I'm in the us).

I am running a dynohub and this will allow me to keep the wires uber short.

I know I can experiment, but I want to ask here also.

I tried it once. I didn't like it. Shadows are very elongated and rather distracting. For me, handlebar height and helmet height seem to give the best illumination.

Unless you stick it on a horizontal post, your leg is going to be in the way. Some tail lights are also fairly directional, which makes them quite sensitive to the angle they are mounted at. The fact that the forks turn all the time will make it worse.

The fact that no one does it might be some indication as to how well it works!

He's talking about tail lights, by the way.

D'Oh!

No. Don't mount taillights on the front fork. You want the motorist behind you to see the taillight. There's just too many ways in which you could mask the light with too much stuff to make it safe to do.

And don't let me catch you mounting red lights on the front of your bike that point forward Red rear, white front.
