Hi guys. New to the forum. Just bought a Raleigh 3.0 Revino Road Bike the other day and I asked the counter person for a GOOD Speedometer/Computer that could tell all the basic stuff AND Temperature. The man picks out a Cateye that was like 60.00 bucks installed. Ok no problem. Well, the company forgot (and I did so to be honest) to give me the box it came in and the directions/manual.

Ok, no problem. I am usually good with figuring out these types of things. Before I went on a cruise today I looked up the model and read the reviews. Bad reviews across the board basically. I took the bike out and didnt like the features. Hard to figure it out (I could fix that with the direction booklet obviously), no temperature feature, BAAAAD backlite and the buttons are HORRIBLE. They are all located UNDER the computer which is a pain when scrolling through options as you ride.

So now that I am basically DONE with this thing.. I pose these questions to you, the pro's out there.

1)- Which is a GOOD easy to use Computer?

2)- Is there a temperature feature on the computer you are suggesting.

I am WILLING to pay up to lets say 125.00 tops. For what I do, thats pretty much a good limit.

My riding skills can be summed up like this:

I USED to ride a Nice Specialized Allez back in 2005. I rode to get in shape so I can make NYC Correction Department job I was offered. I was a tad overweight and needed to get in shape quick. I went down to the local Bicycle shop and they advised me on a Road Bike. I was VERY suprised at the amount of money it was (to me, 1000.00 was A LOT! lol) but I bought it anyways and I FELL INLOVE with it.

Fast forward a good 6 months. I rode the bike about 4-5 times a week and only rode for about 10-15 miles per day. I get the job I was trying to get and the hours at work are killer and I have NO time for the bike. I also have a child not long after and THAT takes up all my time as well.

6 years later, 45 pounds HEAVIER. I decide I need to ride again. Problem was, I sold my bike for extra cash for the baby. I go down to the local bike store and they sell me on a Trek 1.2 Triple. I buy it, try it around my house. I HATED IT. It was SUCH a SLUG!! I bring it back and the salesman sells me on a Raleigh Revino 3.0. I was suprised to hear Raleigh was a good Road bike. He suggested it was a GREAT bike for the price and you get A TON of upgrades over the Trek 1.2 Triple. OK.. I buy it. And now I am determined to ride 10-20 miles per day 3-5 times a week.

So I would like a GOOD to GREAT computer. Basically looking for the best JAMMED PACK full of features for the BEST price. (I know I know, I ask for a lot, right? LOL)

I appreciate your advice, suggestions.

I am going to sell my Cateye on ebay to recoup some money. But I am ADAMANT on not using this Cateye anymore.


P.S. I must be Wireless as well. I hate wires!

I use the Bontrager Node 1 and it does all you've mentioned plus more. It's Ant+ wireless, shows the temp, is easy to read and even has HRM built in. It's in your price range too.

Planet Bike Protege 9.0 Wireless. $40. Virtually no scrolling through options needed. Has temperature. No cadence or heart rate, but you didn't mention that. And no backlight (do you really need backlight?).

For me, the best feature is the Start/Stop option is accessed by actually sliding the whole unit upwards - very slick and easy to use when moving, no fiddly buttons. I used mine everyday until Igraduated to a Garmin 705...

Temp is just about useless. If the sun hits it, it will read high, the way so many bank clocks do.

The last thing I want to see when it's 92 is a speedo saying it's 100.

I haven't had good luck with wireless computers.

I'll look into that model. Sounds pretty cool on sliding it up to get it to work.

As for temperature, it's not a big deal, but I would like to know the temp while I am riding. Just a personal preference I guess.

I just purchased this computer and I am having the shop install it as I type this since I was taking my bike in for maintenance anyway. From all the reviews I have read it seems to be a pretty good computer. It gives you temperature, cadence, calorie counter (for what its worth), and even has HR feature to boot among other things. Good quality computer. Might want to look into that one. It also has backlight. I got it for $119 with taxes and everything (9%+ taxes ouch) so you might find it cheaper in your area or online where I have seen them go for ~$90 dollars.
