hate garmin...
Okay, actually I loved my Garmin Edge 305 - until it wouldn't power up and now need to replace it. Played around with it a bit - charged it again, on then off, charged it... And it's working sort of.
So, I've been looking a new unit. Something on the order of the edge 500 - but is there anything in the same class/category (baro alt, hrt rate, cadence, speed) than Garmin? In other words don't need/want a map, color, or kitchen sink.
I'd just like to shop around a bit, surely there is some competition for them...

The only current competition to Garmin are these:
Bryton Rider 35
Bryton Rider 50
The good thing is that these will also work with the existing Garmin HRM & Cad sensor and they're cheap
I havent used them though but soon I'm planning to buy one of them, though my 305 is still quite in shape

Hi
I ordered the Bryton Rider 35 two days ago and today I got an e-mail telling me it has been posted. I'm looking forward to using it and I'll be sure to come back to this thread to let you guys know what I think of the device once it arrives and I've had a chance to use it properly.

It could just be the battery in the 305, which you could probably replace yourself if you're so inclined, but if not, Garmin probably won't charge you very much (not compared to the cost of a new unit, anyways) to replace it.
Actually, even if it's totally trashed, they'll probably fix it for a good deal less than the price of a new unit. Certainly, give them a call.
