Edge 800 / 10000ft elevation bug

Edge 800 / 10000ft elevation bug
Anybody else have their accumulated elevation gain # blank out to just 4 underscores "_ _ _ _" once you cross the 10,000ft mark? Garmin tells me to reset the device, but of course that won't fix it. It's a software issue with how they display the number I assume.
It's fairly frustrating as I'd been setting goals like "do 8000ft in one ride", then 9000, then 10000. For 11,000 and beyond I'm gonna have to switch to the metric system.

I did post this info on Garmins forum first....in the 4 month old thread where another user has the same issue. 
I just posted it on here since this is a more active forum and maybe somebody has found their own workaround. It's been six months since the last firmware for the 800.....I'd like a bit quicker turnaround for such a pricey device.
