I see that I can buy a "basic" 800. Does this come with maps or are these purchased separately?

It comes with an extremely minimal base map. To make full use of the 800, you also need to purchase a mapset.

Or use a free map from openstreetmap.org It took several hours to download the entire 3.1GB North American map to the micro SD card, but once it was done it worked like a charm!
