Editing GPX or TCX Files
Last night I jumped on my rollers and started my Garmin 705. When I stopped riding an hour later, I forgot to stop the Garmin. Consequently, the Garmin recorded about 17 minutes of inactivity. Is there a utility out there with which I could remove those 17 minutes?

I think garmin connect will let you split a ride and then you can just delete the part you don't want. I did it when I first got my garmin but I can't remember how I did it. Maybe it was garmin training center or strava though... it was definitely one of those three things.

GPX and TCX files are just text. You can edit them with any text editor.
GPX files consist primarily of trackpoints, enclosed within <trkpt> and </trkpt> tags. Each trkpt element has a lat(itude) & lon(gitude) attribute, and a time(stamp) sub-element (as well as possibly an ele[vation] sub-element).
TCK files have trackpoints enclosed by <Trackpoint> and </Trackpoint>. Each of these has a <Time> sub-element.
In both cases, timestamps are in 24-hour Zulu (aka GMT) time, so you'll have to apply an appropriate offset in hours for your local time zone; e.g., subtract 9 for Pacific Standard Time.

Yikes! I took a look at the TCX file! I'm going to need some time to unravel that! Perhaps it was the editor I was using, but it would be nice if each trackpoint showed up on a separate line!
Anyway, I'm also interested in seeing whether the trackpoints my device records includes elevation data.
