Google Maps for Android - No Offline Maps

I got my Gallaxy III and went to Google maps. It looks very similar to the online Google maps. I went to the tutorials and found one on saving and using maps offline, but when I go to my phone, the referrenced button doesn't appear on my screen. Am I missing something? I reveiwed the tutorial several times and it appears simple except that there is no button to access the feature on my phone.

I searched the Google Maps site and community but it was . . . well . . . less than helpful.

Google Maps is premier but it's a bit spotty in practice in my opinion. Some good alternatives are NavFree and MapDroid.

Many cell phones have many features disabled by their cell phone companies. I don't know if your particular model/carrier suffers from this "feature" but if they have an alternate they can charge you for, it's likely.

I just got a smartphone, and the bicycle overlay for the google maps looks pretty nice. It looks accurate too, is it?

If it's not, you can correct it.

On my phone, I start up Google Maps, I hit the menu button and I see "Make available offline". This isn't what you see?

If not, make sure you have the latest version. GM is updated regularly and its possible your version is old.
