Latest $16 Magicshine clones from Amazon
#26
The new clone lights appear to be more water-resistant than the original Magicshines. If you remove the mount (1 screw) from the original MS lamp, you see that the wire just goes into a hole in the aluminum shell. Removing the mount from the clone, however, shows that the wire goes into some kind of rubber stopper thing as it enters the shell. So they are trying to make it more weatherproof. How effective is anybody's guess.
The clone batteries have absolutely no protection from water as they come out of the box.

I bought one of these and was not impressed. It's cheap and doesn't appear to be made to last long. The charger was dead on arrival. Every model of every consumer product has a certain number of DOA items, so that's not the worst part. But the purpose-made bike lights put out by companies specializing in bike accessories have satisfied me more, and I'm happy to spend the extra money on them. This was a useful lesson to me.

I bought and returned a couple of these lights a few months ago thinking I'd be able to use the battery and charger to compliment the 2 Magicshine lightheads and the failing Geoman replacement battery pack I have. I ended up returning both of them. One of them had a bad battery pack, and the connectors wouldn't work with the Magicshine connectors without modifications I didn't want to make on the second. I ended up getting a genuine Magicshine battery pack for $30 after considering making my own like CalrkinHawaii was.
