Have to sit there maybe for days, and move it so as to follow the sun, too.

Hmm, they've come down in price. I've been considering getting one mainly for emergency use. Basically, enough to charge a cell phone etc if you lose all power for a few days.

Check out the Goal Zero stuff. I'm using the Guide 10 setup with tons of luck in all weather conditions. Lots of people who have never used one will tell you that it doesn't work unless you sit around all day adjusting it. Anyone who has used one will tell you otherwise.

Power generated is basically proportional to the cosine of the angle between the array's normal and the incoming radiation. If the array is pointing 45 degrees away from the Sun, its power output will be 70% of that when pointing directly at it. At 20 deg off it's 94%. etc
