Huge Garmin Edge 510/810/1000 Update: Cycling Dynamics, Di2 Support, Edge Remote +++
I noticed this at Ray Maker's website:
Today Garmin has released an oft-asked about feature update to all of the Garmin Edge cycling units released in the last two years, bringing the Edge 510 and Edge 810 the vast majority of the new features found in the Edge 1000. While at the same time adding the previously announced Cycling Dynamics to not just the already confirmed Edge 1000, but also the Edge 510 and Edge 810. Finally, the Edge 1000 gets a landscape mode that was noted some 6+ months ago upon release. Not to mention all three units get a boatload of other tweaks/fixes.
Here’s the quick through of all the major pieces.

I just installed the update. One unexpected result was that it removed all my settings, profiles and sensor registrations.

Just when my Garmin 810 appears to be working OK (as long as I'm not following a preprogrammed course) I'm almost afraid to update it given all the past problems I've had with mine.

I know it's probably too much to hope for but I wish Shimano (or someone) would come out with a bridge head that fits the old Shimano FlightDeck mount and emulates a D-Fly so that those with older STI systems could send gear data to things like the Garmin Edges. I have a couple of older bikes with FlightDeck mounts installed.

Trial and error mostly, involving any number of the following steps in various sequences:
Turn off BT on iPhone
Turn on BT on iPhone
Forget device on iPhone
Try to re-pair to E510 on iPhone
Turn off BT on E510
Turn on BT on E510
Forget device on E510
Try to re-pair to iPhone on E510
Quit Garmin Connect
Start Garmin Connect
Refresh Garmin Connect
It eventually works. I still get 2 E510s in Garmin Connect, no idea why, and I still occasionally have trouble uploading rides via the E510, even after things are successfully paired up.

Has anyone noticed the update causing their garmin to take a lot longer saving workouts than usual? If I finish a ride or run and save it, it takes a few minutes to save as opposed to a couple seconds. Seems kind of buggy to me.

Every since updating my 510 I have noticed the syncing process to my iPhone 5s take several minutes and often fails with a device connection error.

I'm so fricking angry now. Just decided to finally install the updates to my 810 and my wife's 510. My 810 update appears to have gone smoothly without losing any bike profiles or other data. However, my wife's 510 completely reset, loosing all her data. To make matters worse, now I have to set it up from scratch and the ONLY GENDER OPTION IS MALE!!!!, can't set her age, height or weight in the initial set up procedure either. If i just fake it through that process and try to set it up from the settings menu, it takes, but then when I go to the next subject (i.e., gender, then back to choose weight or height) each category resets after I set the next one.
Damnit Garmin!!!! what the hell is wrong with you people that you have such crappy software. I'm two seconds from throwing this 510 as hard against a wall as I possibly can. Only reason I'm not is that there isn't a garmin software engineer standing against it to target.
Guess I now have to go through the pleasure of calling these useless idiots to try and fix their useless software update. Of course, they don't work on the weekends. Just during the time when I'm at work so doing this from home is not an option. Life is too short to deal with Garmin. I'm done with them after this. Completely done with them.

I normally don't connect my 510 to the PC, but last night I used the PC since my Bluetooth was being flaky.... BAD CHOICE! My 510 is just a small step better than a brick. Factory reset* did not help. Crazy/basic stuff doesn't work, back light will not stay on, tone keeps turning on, can not create an activity profile (it will not save my changes) - in fact, that is the root problem through out, no changes are saved. The thing has totally lost it's mind. At this point, there is nothing to save on this unit, so a total reformat would be fine.
*I tried: System --> Device Reset --> Factory Reset. Fixed nothing.

Can you direct me to the forum that helped?

The process worked well for me and eliminated most of the issues caused by the v3.4 update. Currently I have to pair the phone every so often and it takes several minutes of riding before it finds the cadence sensor.
