Strava Hiccup...

Was using Strava for a ride last weekend, and once the ride was over I hit the "stop" and "finish" buttons. When I hit "stop" my ride distance showed 11.7 miles, but after I hit "finish" and it finalized the ride, Strava recalculated my distance to 10.9.

I googled around and aside from some unrelated Strava program issues in 2012 and 2013, I couldn't find any other cases of this or answers as to what happened.

I did stop twice at crosswalks during the ride, but I thought this would have been a time adjustment rather than distance, if anything.

Anybody know what may have happened?

Well, I did the same route again on Tuesday and came up with 10.9, so it must've been a bonafide Strava hiccup.

Checking my notes, the original distance was 12.7 not 11.7, a bigger spread.

GPS can make all kinds of errors. I live in Manhattan where we have tons of tall buildings. Sometimes, my Garmin tells me I've taken a zig zag route that cuts diagonally through buildings. It's kind of funny.

I see that to a certain extent. On the same ride the gps showed the red line of my path cut through the corner lot in a residential intersection when I know I stayed on the street. I'm well mannered enough to not ride over people's lawns!

I looked back at some recent records.

This one is silly.

This one is ridiculous.

And this one is an absolute riot. What, I rode my bike in the river? I don't think so!

Are you sure you weren't using Strava on a speed boat "enhancing" your time ?
