Bucket List Ride Day 1
I have wanted to ride Skyline Drive and the Blue Ridge Parkway end to end so this is the week. My brother and I started in Front Royal, Va and rode all of Skyline Drive today. Hotel to hotel it was 115 miles and 10,300' of climbing. More climbing than what I'd seen published. Perfect weather today and the forecast for the week is very favorable. I think we had over 6000' of climbing the first 40 miles. The asphalt surface is the smoothest surface I've ever ridden on for any distance. It was flawless the entire stretch. (JimF I'm very envious of your riding area-I looked for you on Skyline today)
Tomorrow is 90 miles and another 9000' of climbing from Waynesboro to Peaks of Otter. The whole week is just under 600 miles and over 60,000' of climbing.

You go guys!! You are doing one of the nicest rides in the country in my opinion. I look forward to more updates.
The downhill stretch from Craggy Garden visitors center to the Folk Art center is one of my favorite runs.

Good thing you did Skyline yesterday. Starting Monday, the tunnel at Mary's Rock will be closed for two weeks. I could have shown you a nice detour though
I haven't been able to do it end-to-end in one day because of logistics, but a couple of times I've started in the middle at Big Meadows, and rode to the north end and back on one day, stayed overnight at the lodge, and then rode to the south end and back the next. day. So the whole thing twice over two days.
Don't know if you'll see this before today's ride. Yesterday I was riding from where Rt 60 crosses under the parkway up to Irish Gap/Clarks Gap and then rode down to the river on some gnarly gravel stuff. Fun! Here's the route I did on Sunday. You'll be doing it the other direction today:

If you look off to the right at the House Mountain overlook you might be able to see my place, about five miles west of Lexington
Where are you staying? Peaks of Otter?
