I checked the Strava Leaderboard and I'm sitting 13th of 101 riders all time and 8th this year. There is one guy in the 65+ yrs. group that is 3 secs better than me. Hoping I will get another shot at it this week. I think I need to go to de-tox or have an intervention or something.

Even though winter can be tough up here in Michigan on the 45th. This will be my first winter revisiting my childhood days of snow riding but with the acquisition of a mountain bike, a 2004 Trek 820 Single Track. The "iron maiden" that entraps me every winter wont seem so menial.

Search for: Ryp Hankins to find me.
Ryp: I am now following you. I've been on Strava for a couple of years. We have a lot of "old guy" competition in SoCal. If you wish to follow me it is "Steven Sloma".

PS Where IS Dudelsack? Haven't seen him post for a while.
I'm around, I don't post because I don't ride much. The 50+ group has about 200 members. It doesn't require a code, but if it asks you for one it is 1952. I need to get out and ride some.

Glad to hear that you're still around. You do need to get out and ride some, but I know what you mean about not posting when you don't ride. When I'm off the bike for a while, I don't even look at Bike Forums.

Following you, too. We're close by, at least part of the time, in Northport. Haven't figured out how to get Strava to let me set dual cities yet.

Bikes: Several bikes, Road, Mountain, Commute, etc.

Just had a look at 50+ on Strava and I finished (overall mileage and longest ride) 12th (out of 100). For climbing I was 4th out of 100.

Almost made the podium but was about 3,000 ft. of climbing short . . . ah well. Try again this week!

We are almost neighbors. Well, there goes the end of our string of summer days.

Now you can cure those problems, Doc, good to see you post here, its been too long since you were posting and doing your Time Crunched Cyclist reports. Stick around and get in some miles.

Yeah, we had to head back to St. Louis on Tuesday but that morning was wet, windy, and chilly, and I had the same thought as I was loading my bike onto the back of the car. There goes summer...

It's looking like the end of cycling season in a big way around here. A lot cooler with 20 mph winds. Looks like any plans I had about climbing the Leaderboard are out.

Still feels a lot like summer here! The last few nights we've been able to sleep without turning on the A/C, but still . . . 90's during the day and we're lucky to get into the 70's at night.

Of course in SoCal we don't have an "end of the cycling season"; it's year-round here. It's just that we have add arm or leg warmers, sometimes full-finger gloves in what passes for winter out here.

Riding Glendora Mountain Road on Saturday but we're starting at 6:30 AM to beat (some of) the heat. Will be quite toasty by the time we descend. My best Strava times for GMR are always set in the winter!

And in Minnesota we have water, fat bikes and 22,000 miles of groomed snowmobile trails! Cycling season never ends. Just kidding - for me it's x-country skis and snowshoes - intoxicated snowmobilers can really ruin your day!

Something you said made me curious. Next year, when I retire, I'll be moving to an area where it snows in the winter. That will be new to me. Anyway, are fat bikes allowed on groomed cross-country ski trails? Not in the grooves of course, but what about in the center skate area between the outbound and inbound grooves?

Generally no, it ruins the track set for "classic" style nordic skiing and not allowed. Up here we do have events where fat bikers compete against x-county skier (skate style skiing) which are a hoot, and we also have skijoring which is using your dog to pull you. Again, there are usually special days for dogs on trails for the same reason they don't allow fat bikes.

Of course, x-country ski trails are used in the off season but up here they often are too wet. Snowmobile trails are excellent for fat bikes and I was being sarcastic when I talked about conflict between snowmobiles and fat bikes. The only thing would be to be sure you have a tail light and head light.

With a properly outfitted MTB riding can continue here in Michigan unless -30 is too cold.

Ran my TT yesterday with the hope of some PBs but it was not to be. Some headwinds slowed me just enough to eliminate that possibility. Had a good effort with a decent time though at 16.3 mph. Not sure but the way weather turns around here this could be my last road ride of the season. Always hard to predict.

Just had a major career change, seasonal changes and with this is a change over to pre-winter riding habits. Weekends are major ride times.

A guy I grew up with lives in Fenton, MI. From what he tells me, and what I read, you guys have it much worse in the winter than those of us in CT. This Sunday we are doing a 32 mi. rail-trail then meeting back at my house to go to a winery about 1 mi. from my house. I think there might be 6-12 of us and it should be a blast.

We are near the "tip of the mitt" if you use your handy michigan map we are at the top of your left ring finger on the Lake Michigan shoreline. We can have snow on the ground from mid November thru March. Last year we had continual sub-zero bitter cold temps the month of Feb. I'm hoping we have that forecasted El Nino.
