Just a little personal update. It's been 3 months since posting this thread and have really enjoyed watching each of your progress. So far, I have managed to stay in so-so condition and better off than previous years. Typically, by this time I'm 3mos off the bike and still not on the trainer. Having a mountain bike is the key. My weight is only 3-4lbs off the best of summer (168), been road biking infrequently in our wonderfully warm El Nino. Today I began snowriding for the first time, conquering a 400ft ski hill near my house with a temp of 23F and 9deg windchill. The trails are brutal and is a training hill for local semi-pros and avid mtb cyclists. If the trail is rideable I will ride all winter and hopefully come into spring roadie training as a beast. This is fun.

I'm going to have to reinstall Strava, this thread got me motivated a bit.

I just found this thread. I'm following you now.

I've been pretty busy over the last week so I haven't gotten to ride as long as I like. Holidays and all.

Despite unseasonably warm weather I haven't ridden very much. Every other day I'm in the gym on the weights. I do check in with Strava just to see what Ryp and others are up to though. One of these days I might even start contributing again.

Gotcha! You are doing well for offseason. Thanks to El Nino I dont have to be confined to a trainer and able to hit the hills a couple hours a week until the MTB cant climb (snow). Merry Christmas to you and yours!

In the interest of kicking my rear into gear for 2016, I updated my Strava name to : Mike J (aka Treebound)

Now I just need to figure out how to link my Polar M400 to Strava.

Thank you. Tried to link it today, will see if it syncs overnight and how far it backloads. If not then I'll try and get a run/walk/ride in and see if that syncs fresh. Thanks for the help.

Which Garmin are you using? Just curious, I'm currently using a Polar M400 watch which works fine for walks around the business park during the workweek, but I've been thinking of a Garmin in a few months once the Christmas bankrupting subsides and recovers.

What's the ratio of Strava Free vs Strava Premium users? I'm not sure what if any benefit it would give me, mostly I just ride for fun and fitness so I'm thinking it is probably not worth the cost to me.

If I check the leaderboard, I usually only check for the highest average speed.

I've got a Garmin 500. It only goes on two of my bikes, and as luck would have it the last two rides I've done weren't those bikes. I could have just packed the Garmin in my rear pocket, but that's the part that I forgot to do.

Sunday's ride (1/3/16) was "Algie's Birthday Ride." I don't know exactly how old Algie is, but somewhere around 80. We did 11 miles in 29F, and it took just over an hour. Brr!

The Polar watch and app are linking well to Strava, now I just need to get some bike rides in instead of logging walks and office workouts.

It is motivational to see the riding many of you are getting in over this winter.

It is a nice motivator. We have an extra snowy cold week coming up. I'll put up a few miles in it.

The forecast shows below 20degF for Sunday through Wednesday, then it will warm back up to maybe 31degF on Friday. Yep, the basement workout time has arrived.

Being across the pond from you, that snow dumper coming through over the weekend will keep us busy.

I have only been using Strava for a few days now, and have only been cycling for 3 months (was very unfit and overweight and 3 months ago I struggled to breathe after a mile)

the problem now with Strava, is that every ride becomes a race .... I need to slow down a bit, especially in the wet

I just went around snagging the 2016 leader spot on a few hills near home with Strava segments. I'll remain in first place for the year until anyone else rides them. I set the bar very low, so it won't last long.
