+1, Big John, that was needless to say it the way that he did. I have absolutely no need to look like a racer, never tried to fool anyone. The SPD-SL and correct shoes just plain work for me, and a lot of others, too. ride on what works best for you, don't waste time making judgmental statements.

Advocating flat pedals or toe clips is pointless since the OP already stated she wanted to go back to clipless. All you retro-grouches can now go back under your bridges to sulk.

A: Don't get an LED light, just get a gas lantern.
Clipless pedals are here to stay, they're better for a long list of reasons that have already been covered in this thread.
