You have the unusual distinction of making successive statements with both of which I agree! That's very rare. Merino wool baselayers are absolutely the dog's bollocks, as vulgar people say here.

In that case, I retract all and add that your mother dresses you funny.

Actually, wool mid layers are pretty hotsy-totsy, too.

Move to Bend. Problem solved.

I quit wearing wool for outdoor sports in 1975. Heavy when wet, weak when wet, takes too long to dry. That was about the same time I also quit wearing cotton for outdoor sports. They're both nice for indoors and working in sheltered places though.

Things have moved on. Nothing heavy about a merino baselayer, wet or dry. Warm when wet and doesn't stink after a few hours like the synthetics. Cotton, I agree. Hopeless, because the fibres become waterlogged.

Things have moved on. The new synthetics don't stink after an 18 hour ride. Warm when wet, dry between showers. Try a Craft baselayer. Amazing.

Careful, even with the double retraction, this is three agreements between you and Chas. Dangerous precedent to be setting.

Thx for the info. I live in an area where we have nothing but drought. Until, El Nino shows up. We will have rains in the 60's to 70' degree weather so, it's not too cold. I work in the rain and I use to run in it. Now, I'm game to ride in it. Thx for the support.

I don't have fenders on my bikes.

I haven't tried the Vittoria Pave tires. However, the Clement X'Plor USH tires throw mud everywhere... even when riding on wet pavement
