The way we do it now is brilliant. I can't believe all the complaining, what a bunch of grumps. I hope anybody who has trouble with this never actually flies between two time zones... <horrors>
If we didn't do DST, sunrise in June would be 4:00 am... nobody wants that.... seriously?
And if we went to full time DST, sunrise in December would be 8:00am... dark while kids going to school etc.
DST switching is a triumph of human kind's creativity over the solar system... bravo humans! You know what would be even better? A TWO-hour shift.
And a raspberry to the grumps.

Back in the day I was a strong proponent of year 'round DST. Now I'm up, mostly by choice, at 4:15-5:00 am daily, up quite late never, and would much prefer DST be relegated to the dumpster.

My mother-in-law, before she died, had a near perfect solution. She took one watch off her wrist and replaced it with one from a drawer. When fall came she'd switch back. Also, her VCR never flashed 12:00 - no VCR.

Government sanctioned sleep deprivation doesn't make sense when there are already so many things in our lives doing that.
Staying up late for the bright evenings cuts your sleep even more.
When I set my clock forward, I set my alarm forward too so I won't lose the hour of sleep.

Standard time works fine here, but you have to adjust when working with the mainland and vice-versa. 6 hour time difference to the east coast makes it a little tight getting work done. Of course, there's no uniformity around the world so Mexico away from the border and Europe are on different schedules.

Sunrise at 4 am...road or trail to myself as the sun rises...that would be awesome. It's too hot around here in the afternoon and evening anyway. Plus one less hour of the AC running after work.

In all of this, maybe the most intelligent move is by the state of Quintana Roo in Mexico.
Last year they elected to abandon the overall Mexican time scheme, and adopt daylight time year round. Ostensibly they did this so tourists would enjoy longer evenings and keep the bars and restaurants busier, but there's a unique fringe benefit.
In the summer, they're on Central daylight time, which has them in tune with most of Mexico as it's been all along. But in the winter, which is their tourist season, they're in sync with USA eastern standard time (same as central Daylight) which works nicely because almost all the cruise traffic originates in Miami. That means that passengers don't get confused between boat time and local time, which makes everybody happy.

Maybe they are related to the person that came up with tagging a leap year day onto March. Why not add that to June??

Everything I have does it automatically except my expensive watch! The watch doesn't know what month it is too. Funny that a $20 watch does though. The clock and stove don't either but we don't look at those anyway.

I always liked DST before I retired because it gave me more daylight time after work for rides, yard work, whatever. That is less of a concern for me now, but I still like that I can plan rides after work hours for my riding friends.
Shifting sleep schedules an hour this way or that has never bothered me. I accept that it does bother some people, but it is not something I have experienced personally.
Maybe if the shift forward happened at 4PM on a Friday instead of 1 AM on Sunday it would be better received.

That's exactly how I feel. Although I prefer daylight savings, I'd be happy if they would just agree on one. Sometimes, the answers are simple.

Personally, I wish we would just pick one time standard and stick to it year-round. I am sick and tired of changing clocks and readjusting to the time change every 6 months or so. I wouldn't care if we went with standard time or daylight savings time, just quit changing it.

It was related to when then repaired the Gregorian Calendar, I suppose...or maybe nobody wanted to remember 31 and 32 day leap years, 29 was easier as February was so oddball.

I look forward to Daylight Saving Time every year. Tonight I came home from work and it was still light out! Yay! I'm all for abolishing time changes as long as we get to keep DST all year round.
