In the Upper Midwest, It' My Fault
Yep, you can blame me. A few weeks ago, intoxicated by the beautiful, warm, windless, weather, I took my bike off its trainer. Off came the trainer tire, too. Had a wonderful few days of outdoor cycling, and then, it was March again! I know better. I should have just let well enough alone, kept pedaling with my Aussie friends on Sufferfest until the weather officially broke, but noooooo, I had to mess with Mother Nature.
Sorry all.
Sorry all.

We are used to this. It happens every year. Besides, it's still March.

There are riders all over the mid-west making voodoo dolls with your screen name on them and preparing to stick as many needles in them as possible. Intoxication is never a good way to be making decisions, now is it?

I took the snowblower off my tractor. So how do I explain why the storm missed me?

I sold the bike I had on the trainer, just the other day. Not that it made much of a difference. I hate trainers. I should sell the trainer (come fall) too. I have friends that take winter golf trips... I am thinking I should do the same with my bike.

These are the storms where I'm glad I sprung for a real snow thrower. Alllllmost swapped the snowthrower and motorcycle spots in the garage last week.

Sun's out, snow will be melting fast! About 10" fell here, but I am planning to ride this afternoon, after the sun works its magic.

I did the same and haven't put the bike back on the trainer . . . so now I'm just not riding it. Bad, bad call.

Speaking of assessing fault, when I worked summers and weekends at a bike shop we had a rotating daily general confession. Whatever went wrong that day was assumed to be the fault of the person who had signed the day's general confession. This kept the whole blame game thing under control.

Phew. I though it was my fault. I took the bike off the trainer and rode, but didn't bother to change the tires to this year's set. Don't change the tires, it evidently makes the snow gods angry.

Here in the lower Great Lakes region - you had better be getting in some serious training miles because TOSRV is only six weeks away! 210 miles in two days. Mother's Day Weekend. I've been seriously remiss in getting time in on the rollers this past winter - I'm gonna pay for that!!!

Still learning
So warm and dry this winter in Michigan, I've ridden more frequently this winter than I ever imagined possible. Over the 4 months and out about 45-50 trips to the community fitness center, probably rode my bike 80% of the time. I even rode to the movie house 2 weeks ago at 8:00 PM.

I did take the studded tires off the commuter bike, so I kinda knew the snow was coming back. But thankfully, the Pugsley is ALWAYS ready for snow .

Yup. Bike off trainer. Ice storm.
But mind you, I have not yet changed out the trainer tire for a regular tire. I assume that's the reason it was only a lethal-sidewalk ice storm, and not a power-down-across-the-city one.

I compromised. Put on a new front tire, but left the trainer tire as is and left the bike on the trainer, much as I am itching to put that new rear on and try it out. As a result, we only got an inch or two of snow........followed by sleet and freezing rain. Note to self: The snow gods are not amused by compromise!

We got a good 14" and this morning my friend almost laid down his fat bike when he hit an ice patch. He said "get studs".

It's not quite cold enough here for snow, but close. With all the rain last night, I didn't have to fill the bird bath today. That's been getting refilled by me twice a day, for the last week or so, but at least the birds are clean.
