I have a road bike, a flat bar sports bike and an mtb. I now realise that this is all I need or want on a permanent basis.

I still get n+1, but the +1 is for the fun of building it and trying it out, not to keep, and I sell them on, occasionally at a profit, sometimes at a loss!

If ever I prefer one of the +1s to a current bike then the current will go, no problems they are just things. It's been a bit of a wrench deciding to get rid of some of them, but once they're gone, no second thoughts.

I've never had any n+1 issues until very recently. I'm struggling with wanting to upgrade my road bike. I have a perfectly fine Secteur that gets a ton of miles and rides great. But for whatever reason I just want to make the jump to carbon, then relegate the Secteur to foul weather and the trainer. I also have a vintage steel that I ride for short social events, but that's rare.

I've put together a plan to have said new bike before November, the wife has signed off on it so I'm good to go. Just have to find the right deal.

Read my earlier post on this (#23 on the previous page). If you are chiefly a roadie riding a Secteur, then I think you will really get some pleasure upgrading to carbon. And this goes without saying, but test ride a bunch before you choose. I rode about 5 different models before I found the one for me. And since you ride a Secteur, I'll add that going in I thought I wanted a relaxed geometry bike (like a Specialized Roubaix), and only by trying a variety, including models that weren't originally on my radar, did I find that the Felt F (which is more aggressive, like a Tarmac or Madone) was what I wanted.

Strange, I know. Do you think I should consult a professional?
As a fellow Minnesotan, I think you need to either get a fatbike or professional help.

Living here, our riding season is months and months shorter than others in the rest of the county *unless* one can find a way to ride during the winter at the same frequency as the rest of the year. A fat bike on snow packed trails is a blast that we roadies seriously can enjoy and benefit from.

@MinnMan
It sounds like you've reached balance. Good for you.
I hesitate to admit this here on the forum, but after years of obsessing over upgrades or yet another bike, not only am I happy with what I've got, but I'm unable to think of anything else bike related that I could justify the expense of. Even worse, I've been thinking of selling the one I use the least.

I think about selling some of my old bikes too. Been doing that for years and never sold one. I guess I just get too attached to them. Most of them have been built up from components from a frame or even custom frame, so they've all fit me so well and I've had so many good memories with them. I *finally* a few years ago took my a gorgeous 1980 Motobecane (state of the art at the time) and let my son use that for a University bike. It had been in the garage for 20 years unused but I couldn't bear to part with it. Now, it's pretty beat up, but it's getting a lot of use.
