Careful with those road flares, you might need to hook them together with some wire so they don't move too much. And, with that vest, you might find a nice place to attach your cell phone to the outside. Make sure to wear headphones, too, so you can't hear the police when they want to visit with you.

You referenced not wanting to use a hat or bandana type item so what are you looking for other than suntan lotion and possibly a collared jersey?
Seriously?...
And are you implying that people using hats or 'Arab' style headgear are not intelligent btw?

No implications. I just bought a red bandana hat with a largish flare. So a semi Arabic look for me.. . . Maybe it'd go well with the Harley I never got. ..

An oversized bandanna , my wife made a couple for me. I don't like sunscreen much, so covering up is my favored solution.

I've had long hair my whole life, ponytail for more than 45 years but finally cut it when I retired a few weeks ago. I know most folks grow their hair out when they retire but I did the opposite, this whole sunburned neck thing is new to me. So far just hoping the tail part of the do-rag I wear under my helmet will protect and it's OK. Also learning to remember sunscreen more often.

I use one of these when the heat and sun get extreme. I wore one for a few years at work and they really are amazing at cooling you off. My helmet has ratcheting adjustments so I loop it over that and tighten it. Put some water from your bottles on it as your riding and it keeps you cool and blocks the sun.

Since I'm a Clydesdale, shirt on...collar up would be a next step but sunscreen even better.

+1 Sunscreen. A white skullcap/headband with a tail is nice in very hot, sunny weather. The sweat wicking onto the tail and evaporating has a slight cooling effect and the shade helps keep your neck from baking. Sunscreen will prevent sunburn and hopefully prevent skin cancer, but it doesn't do a thing for feeling cooked.

I bought one of those Headsweats 'do rags' a couple of years ago, meant to be worn under the cycling helmet. Made out of a moisture wicking fabric to aid in cooling.
If I was to riding the AZ sun, I'd consider a DaBrim though...

Too true! Wife made a bandana out of a large coloured handkerchief. Made a good gypsy hat for her which suited her well. She then tied it round my neck, boy scout fashion. Might not look cool, (have to take up smoking to do that lol) but does the job. . .

Doc probably wants to prevent sunburn, which is managed by SPF 30 or whatever, and covering up with a bandanna or the sun tail on a hat. Doc probably also wants to prevent skin cancer. What my doc recommends to prevent skin cancer (got a family risk factor) is sunscreen labelled "Broad Spectrum." That gives both UVA and UVB protection, preventing sunburn and giving skin cancer protection.

Trouble is, we need vit D, lots of it. That is a known cancer reduction agent. So here we have a dilemma.. . .eh bien (sigh)

Yeah, I don't know if sunscreen impedes making your own vitamin D or not.

I don't know what mad dogs do, but Englishmen have traditionally resorted to Bombay bowlers, foreign service sun helmets, sola topees and Wolseleys.
