When I was racing, BITD, very rare to see another cyclist on the road, in Southern VT.

Now, 12 miles north of NYC, on any nice Saturday, I see a couple hundred, in about an hour on the road in front of my house.
Since I'm trying to improve my speed/condition, starting from a low base, I'm still riding solo mostly, but smile and nod frequently. (My zone 4-5 is probably easy chatting speed for many). Late evening on weekends is the least bike cluttered, but then the drinks and dinner set are on the move.

Riding to work sometimes now, and that's been sweet.

Cheers, Eric

I have to ask, ever been stopped by LEO in those wee hours? Maybe they roll up, roll down the window and ask how your doing? No, I am not bashing BLUE, just curious.

ACTUALLY, I have stopped to talk to some of the LEOs who position themselves waiting for speeders on a particular road I ride. Since I have plenty of lights glowing they just drive by with me acknowledging their presence with a wave.

If I'm out late (midnight or so, usually not out too much later than that), and I pass by a parked police car, I'll usually give them a nod.

I enjoy riding solo as well as in groups. About half of my mileage and 3/4 of my rides is from commuting, which is always solo. I often ride with groups on weekend rides and occasional tours. Although I prefer riding with groups, sometimes it isn't worth the hassle when others have different preferences on riding times, routes, pace, number of stops, etc.
