first ride of 2017
Yesterday I took my first ride in 2017, but it was also my 1st ride since my aortic valve replacement. I only rode 15 minutes because I underdressed, but it was great to ride outside again.
I want to thank everyone who post positive stories about your OHS and how you bounced back.

Awesome! congrats on being back on a bike.
It's been Seattle weather here in Tucson, and I'm done riding in that. I'm hoping to get my first ride in on Wed, weather depending.

Well done. And any effort counts.
My first ride after 30 years away from cycling, and recovering from a busted up back and neck and struggling with Hashimoto's thyroiditis, psoriatic arthritis and other pesky stuff, was the end of August 2015. I made it one mile before collapsing on the roadside. A kind city bus driver scooped up my bike and me and took us home.
It took weeks to ride more than 400 yards without stopping and gasping for air. Months to reach the 10 mile mark.
Yesterday, January 1st, 2017, I rode 47 miles. Still needed a couple of rest stops. The final 12 mile leg home was miserable. Today I'm achy. But happy to have made that progress.

Man, I haven't ridden a bike for 4 weeks, not after I caught a lingering cold from riding in snow that was diagnosed as bronchitis after New Years. Hopefully, the antibiotics will get me back on my feet by the weekend.
My minor case pales relative to the OP's story, as well as the other recent guys who are recovering from big time health issues. Still, did I get fat in those 4 weeks. And my wife, being a good one, says no more winter bike riding unless we go to Florida.
Anyway best wishes to dsljay, bobbyg, eja b., the OP and all the others.
