105 year old cyclist sets record...

for the 105 and above class

14 mph at 105 is pretty good but he has slipped from 16.7 mph 3 years ago.

Must be slacking off on his training

Bikes: 2022 Salsa Beargrease Carbon Deore 11, 2020 Salsa Warbird GRX 600, 2020 Canyon Ultimate CF SLX disc 9.0 Di2, 2020 Catrike Eola, 2016 Masi cxgr, 2011, Felt F3 Ltd, 2010 Trek 2.1, 2009 KHS Flite 220

Wow. "105" is the name of a groupset, not the age of a cyclist whizzing around a track.

The BBC article says his legs didn't hurt, but his arms did because of rheumatism. It does sound like he had more in him, but hopefully he'll keep racking up hour records for a while.

Bikes: Many, and the list changes frequently

I'd like to make an attempt to beat him. Got to get there first.

Bikes: Marin Muirwoods Racked out for this years Tour, Norco Indi 4 racked out from last years tour, Giant Defi II for week-end ripps.

Raises the question, "what is middle aged"?

Great story and a special person.

But worryingly it shows you do slow down as you get older. How much slower can I get?

Bikes: More bicycles than I can ride at one time: 2 custom made tourers, a Brompton 6-speed, and an Indian-made roadster.

YES!
Now this 68.y.o will be doing Cape York to Cairns in July - August. Unsupported and it will take 3 to 4 weeks, depending on how many WW Ii sites I visit.

Folks like this French bicycle traveller help inspire me

There is always hope--impressive and inspiring!
Besides I drank the same water and breezed the same air as Robert!
Although I have 37 years to catch up!

That reminds me of an episode of "Northern Exposure";
Holling, (who owns the bar/restaurant), just turned 60, but instead of celebrating his birthday, he is depressed.
Under questioning from Dr Fleischman, he reveals that the men in his family typically live to be 120yo.
So turning 60 means he has become middle-aged.

I'm gonna beat this punk Marchand. It'll be 50 years from now. But just you watch...I'll get him!!! My quest starts now.
