You should have to live in the snow belt like I do. By this time of year I am really getting cabin fever when it comes to biking.

However due to and unusually warm day or two, this after noon I am going for the third ride of the year. I simply do not like to ride if I cant ride in shorts.

I feel your pain. I can see the wall of heat coming soon here, and getting the remnants of your storms during prime riding season kind of sucks. It's cool rainy and windy here, but in my best Little Orphan Annie voice....The sun will come out tomorrow...

Maybe we'll get a cooler summer to go along with our cooler rainier winter.

I moved to SoCal (from St. Louis) in '95 to get away from cold winters, excessive rain, etc. The only reason I'm bored now is that I came down with this awful cold/flu thing that's been going around.

Very bad timing. I had to miss a double century I'd been training for. So far this year I've ridden 1,423.32 miles with 69,622 ft. of climbing to train for this double. Some of those miles in cold (for here) and rain.

Still not feeling recovered enough to ride . . . maybe tomorrow. Overcast now but not raining. I hope to be ready for the Spring Solvang double on March 18th. Sickness sucks. Could be worse though, I know.

I will recover to ride again!

I am an author and all of my books are available in e-book formats exclusively. I figure I save distribution costs and I am not killing trees.

Mickey, that's funny about Steve Martin.

I am a "serial reader," usually reading two three books at a time. Right now, in addition to SAPIENS, I am reading Gay Talese's Thy Neighbor's Wife and a biography of Jacque Anquetil. Somehow Talese's novel and the story of Anquetil's sexual escapades (whete did he ever find time to train?) dovetail nicely. Carrying all those books around would be difficult before the advent of e-books.

Mickey, what kind of books do you write? I always like to read stuff from authors that I know (or are acquainted with).

Rode 45 miles today, cool and windy, but no rain.

I would normally ride in the rain, I have done it before and I love it. But my neurolosurgeon wants me to avoid risky rides...at least for now.

I suppose Magnum would have been boring, if he was always trying to fix a Jaguar XJ12 instead of driving a Ferrari.

This is a joke right? Cabin fever you say. You should move to the north east and try it out some time in the winter . Cold Gray and snowy for 6 months of the year .

That's why I live in SoCal. I pay high taxes, deal with earthquakes and put up with wacky politicos just so I can ride my bike 360 days a year.

I leave the crappy weather, snow, slush and mold to the rest of you guys.

I have written books on different subjects.

Get Happy, Write Away (positive thinking and motivation)
Ninja Mind Tricks (mental discipline, goal setting, relaxation techniques, connecting with people)
The Art and Craft of Romance (A Gentleman's Guide to Romancing A Lady) how to write love letters and love poems
Fly Tying Secrets of the Pros (the subject is obvious, but it's my claim to fame)
Frame That Shot (take pictures like a professional photographer)
The Thrill of the Hunt (how to craft a resume, interview, get a job)
The Age of Stupidity (now out of print, but, we might do a second edition in the future)

My next project- "Somehow We Manage (why businesses fail)" another obvious subject.

That pretty much sums up the books. I've written so many articles that I lost count years ago. Everything from world trade to religion, cycling, philosophy, and a lot more.

Here is a link to my blog....

Interesting that you are taking a cyclocross bike, just in case. Many years ago, following a rash of earthquakes in So Cal, I bought a folding bike to carry in the trunk of my car "just in case."

Fortunately I changed job, closer to home, and sold the folder. I figured that it would be easier and probably faster to walk/run home.

What a beauty. I wouldn't take her out on the rain and rish making her a dirty bici.

I figure that it is OK to pay higher taxes and deal with crazy politicians ( and their crazy laws) as the price for living in a cycling paradise, where I can ride 360 days out of the year wearing only bib shorts and a jersey.

Lately, however, I feel as if I am not getting the full benefit of the bargain.

Thanks eja , I actually killed a few rain days putting this bike together . Don't worry about the rain , I think we are going to get one more light day and then it won't rain for years .

There is no crappy weather, only inappropriate clothing.

I used to live in Imperial Beach and Newport Beach - just too many humans in you're part of the world. But the bike riding temps near the coast can't be beat.
