First 30 miles

Saturday was a beautiful day here in Georgia. I felt like going for a ride. So I went to a place called Callaway Gardens that has a newly paved bike trail. It is only 10 miles long. After the first run I wasn't ready to stop. So I rode the loop again. I was not going fast or trying to kill myself, just enjoying the ride. After the second loop and 20 miles I had another hour before they closed so I decided to do another loop. that made for 30 miles for the day. My longest ride so far.

And then you rode back to Griffin?

30+ years ago, when we lived in Hot 'Lanta, the Southern Bicycle League had an annual ride to Callaway Gardens (and back the next day after overnight camping). Fun ride - good people - nice scenery. Don't remember riding around the Gardens particularly, either on roads or trails.

Good for you. I'm getting ready to do one of those state tours (around 70 miles a day) and I have not yet ridden further than 40 miles in a day . . . .

Man I need to get on that bike, : )

LOL...No I drove the bike over to Callaway in the truck. It is about 60 miles over there from here.

Keep on riding 20-30 mile rides and eventually, sooner than you think, 50-60 miles will be easy. Of course, Griffin to Callaway and back, plus 30 miles in the Gardens........hmmmm....that would be 150 miles.
Piece of cake for some folks, but not me!

I've never ridden more than about 85 in a day.

Congrats! Riding should be fun, so don't fuss too much about high mileage rides yet. You'll get there when you're ready.

Congratulations! My rides have generally been between 25-30 miles (outdoors, not indoor stationary bike when raining outside) 3 to 4 times a week but haven't been able to extend beyond that yet. Hopefully I will someday!

Congratulations! I think it's always a good feeling to surpass one's early achievements.

Is there a 'green with envy' emoji? :-) I wish it were warmer here in Northern Illinois (although it's already warm for April), but then again, our Summer is cooler than yours....

30 miles out-one-way can be just enough to get you far enough away from home to take a hotel room for a night and call it a "tour!" Then you can either ride home or take public transportation home the next day.

Doing an overnighter with just your bicycle can be a really memorable experience. I do it at least twice every summer. I miss having my wife with me at the end of the day, but I love the feeling of "roughing it" and living with the bare essentials for 24 hours. Try it sometime, and let us know how it felt!

The gardens are beautiful . Have gone there a couple of times for the hot air balloon fest. They must have paved the bike paths recently. I bet it was a GREAT ride. congrats.

I did a Michigan multi-day tour a few years ago, was supposed to be about 65 miles a day for 5 days. My training was to work up to a comfortable 50 mile day twice in a row. I only made two days of the tour, but that was because I got a job offer while in the remote Upper Peninsula.

But I thought the training strategy worked well, as far as I took it.

That's pretty much my training goal as well. It's just been raining too much but next week looks better. I plan on riding 30 or so miles 5 days next week and 2 of those days need to be right around 50 miles.
