These age rides...
Albeit 4 days early, I rode my age plus two today. There was an organized metric century sponsored by a bike group in our neck of the woods, so I figured that would be the time and place to get 'er done. I rode the metric and then ventured back out on the course to get my extra miles to qualify for the obligatory age-in-miles ride.
You know, as one ages these age rides ain't gettin' any easier.
I had considered moving to Canada so I could do it in km instead of miles, but Canada is the frozen north. And to the best of my knowledge, they don't have crawfish, boudin, alligator, chicory coffee, bream, crappy, barbeque and other members of the life-essential food groups. Also, I don't know how to convert real years into metric years, so I might end up having to ride farther
.
This business of becoming ancient is confusing and definitely ain't for the weak of heart.

I hear you on the cold and food group thing.
As you get older you could do like what I've considered doing — riding my age in "half-miles".
That means on my next birthday I'd have to ride 73 "half-miles" if I felt so inclined. That would be 36.5 actual miles.

I'll be doing a couple of "age" ride this month as I'm trying to get in shape for a week long tour early in June. I also have an "age" appropriate bike I like taking out on a longish ride from time to time, a 1960 Olmo gran sport. There's some good riding in central Louisiana. I lived in Alexandria for a year and did a lot of riding with the Kisatchie bike club.

I will have to get out for my birthday ride this next week (waaay below normal temps here in Ohio this coming week - 15-20 degrees below normal!) and try to ride 59 miles.
