now / decades later - excess weight certainly is a killer when climbing - especially the steeper stuff ; the steeper the climbs the more (my excess) weight becomes a big negative

I can slog my way up the longer climbs (with proper gearing) - often not pretty / too slow - but when the climbs become steeper it can be blow-up time
Back in 2011 training for a century ride it became surprisingly obvious for every 5lbs lost acceleration and hillclimbs noticeably improved. At 202lbs every hill was became a test of endurance. Can’t wait to see what losing 30-35lbs feels like.
