Graduation season
Does anyone else have kids or grandkids graduating at the end of this term? On Friday we celebrated our younger son's Doctor of Physical Therapy degree, with high honors, at U. of St. Augustine. In terms of helping with grad school expenses, that's two down, none to go (yaa!), until our little grandsons reach college age, which is a ways off.

wow, good for you. we've got one graduating college on Mothers' Day. crossing my fingers his interviews amount to something so he can get on a safe consolidated loan repayment plan ... his sister graduates next year, THEN we'll be done ...

Nope, not me. I have two sons, one has a doctorate in metallurgy, one has no degree. Guess which one makes more money?

My last two graduated last May, so nice to have that monkey off our backs. Collectively our 4 kids did 3 yrs of community college, 18 yrs of undergrad and 4 yrs of veterinary. It's a lot less painful to add up the years than to add up the money!

I lost my first "child" to cancer last August. My new child is a big boy who likes to chase strings and sit in the window sill and watch birds. Kind of like having a human child because he gets impatient for his meals, doesn't put away his toys and likes to wake me up early in the morning to do stuff.

Heh. I was a bike club picnic yesterday. There was a goofy woman there who I had never seen before. I think I overheard her say she was a pharmacist. She was chatting up some young guy. She asked what he studied in college. His answer: Philosophy. She sort of chuckles and asks him sort of deridingly "Do you have a job?" Ouch. I am not sure she even realized how she sounded. Turns out the guy does real estate development.

One down, two to go!
My oldest daughter graduated last year, but promptly started grad school. Her boyfriend is doing a Ph.D. They should finish at the same time, then who knows!
The other two are quite a bit younger, one in middle school, the youngest in fourth grade. It'll be a while.

Our (only) son graduated with a MSc in Structural Engineering last June and is full time employed ever since. He was part time employed in various internships since sophomore year, but his education still put a good size dent in our annual budget.
Since his graduation, we both retired, we 've spent 5 weeks in Europe (Greece, Germany, Holland-Belgium on an 8 day biking tour), 2 weeks in NYC (where we biked every day that was not raining), a week in Carmel (where we didn't bike at all) and 5 weeks in Australia/New Zealand. All this put much less of a dent in our budget, so...
Yay for Graduations!
(and retirement!!).

My last one at home graduated from college in December and starts his new full time job next week. He's going to be living at home for a couple of months to build up his cash reserves. Looking forward to the empty nest.

Bravo, and congratulations! I am blessed to have the perfect empty nest situation, with both sons living just under 5 miles away.

Our son graduated from Purdue School of Engineering 2 years ago and makes more money than my wife and I together. Already paid off 160k in loans. My daughter just graduated last weekend with a degree in French and foreign relations. What in the world is she going to do with that we asked her from the beginning. She didn't know, but all things French are her passion. We loaned her the money not expecting repayment anytime soon if ever, however it will come out of her inheritance! She has had several interviews with companies tied to politics, one of them an hour and a half in length. Nothing came of them. "NO EXPERIENCE" was the reason every time. The paper means little to nothing in the long run. Gotta have the skills and experience is where they come from.
Oh, I should mention that she is now teaching herself Hebrew. She has a base in Biblical Hebrew from a class she took for 2 years while in high school. No, not part of the curriculum, but a teacher offered it to the students before class started in the morning. Neat that the state didn't shut it down due to it being based in the language of the Hebrew Bible. To understand the language one must understand the culture. Says she wants to go to grad school in Israel. Not on my dime.
