Got my first ever saddle sore during our recent bike tour in Europe. It has kept me off bike for over a week. Been soaking and applying different things but decided to go to my doc on Monday.

I have had success with something called Prid. And, I would consider CBD salve. Got mine from Hammer Nutrition. Not cheap but effective.

A couple of details would be helpful. For example, what type of saddle do you have? Has your tour resulted in riding more miles per day than you usually would? Many folks discover that the saddle that is perfectly fine for short or infrequent rides becomes a pain cave when used for multiple back-to-back long distance days. That's why most of the tourists you see riding PCH are on Brooks B-17s (although perhaps you already have a well-vetted saddle).

I ride a B17' and have ridden across North America 2x, Europe 3x. The only difference is this trip I had to get a new frame,a bit smaller, because of an accident just before leaving. This frame did not allow me to get my saddle back as far as I am use to. I believe this may have been the reason.

This came up in another similar discussion, but there are all kinds of "saddle sores". Bruises or aching of the sit bones or perineum, or penile numbness or labia swelling and pain, which may be a saddle or bike fit issue. Broken skin with risk of bacterial infection. Rashes from heat, fungi or viruses.

I seem to have my bike fit and saddles dialed in, so no real problems with soreness from saddle pressure. Occasionally I'll stand to pedal during longer rides.

Good shorts help too. Best pad I've found is the orange 3D pad in the cheap Przewalski shorts on Amazon, for $15-$30. The shorts are good, very basic, but the pads are outstanding. Never seen anything like it in other brands. Thick, dense and resilient, with a smooth surface. Yet it wicks moisture better than any other pad I've tried. Never feels like I'm sitting in a soggy diaper. The shorts I have from Pearl Izumi, Aero Tech and Black Bibs are okay but not as good.

I had a pesky itchy rash this year for the first time ever. I figured it was probably an extension of a longtime problem with psoriatic arthritis and psoriasis, since the skin outbreaks that usually occur on my hands and scalp could just as easily pop up elsewhere. But I also had athletes foot as a kid in school and that fungus never really gets cured and can pop up elsewhere years later. I don't think I've ever had problems with herpes zoster cold sores or shingles, but my mom did.

Anyway, I just used a combination of zinc oxide/diphenhydramine cream to sooth the itching, a hemorrhoid cream that contains glycerin, pramoxine (local anesthetic) and phenylephrine (reduces swelling), another ointment with miconazole for fungus, and Lidex, a potent steroid that must be used very sparingly and carefully to avoid defatting the subcutaneous tissue and thinning the skin. Took a couple of weeks, and lots of hot soaks in a bath with Epsom salts, but it cleared up.

Went to the doc today and he put me on some potent antibiotics for a week. I also got a prescription for a topical gel. I have only taken 1 pill so far and maybe it's my imagination but it seems to bother me less!

I have never gotten saddle sore on a recumbent seat.

I ride on mostly Brooks Pro saddles that are broken in nicely. I also have a more modern B17 that I am still working in. I have not had a sore ever and I have been riding since the early seventies. If I ride more than 5 miles or so I put on some gel type padded shorts that my daughter bought me. I DO feel it if I ride over 40 miles but no real sores just more of an ache. Been off my bike for 2 weeks now due to a rather severe saddle sore. Believe it was due to seat being too high.
I didn't know about saddle sores till I found this one. So frustrating and what a pain!
It is now healing, but will stay off bike for the weekend, and see about riding next week.
I bought dznuts pro and will see how much it helps.

Back to the doc a few days ago. He,a sur, said it was a boil caused by follicleitis. He number it and lanced it. Finally feeling better!!
