I think the idea of the professional bike cave was originally posted in the C&V forum? but maybe I'm getting them mixed up. Anyway, it was about these professional storage spaces that are popping up for people to store their high end "toys". The garage would have loads of work and storage space obviously but also a lounge for seating and entertaining. Looks awesome if you had loads of doh-rae-me to spend on this sort of thing. This guy bought into the concept for his C&V bikes. A good watch for sure.

When we were in a condo with a garage, this was my set up.

that is the thin side.

If you have any extra space like I did....

Then things got a bit more cramped:

In all fairness, this is a double car garage.

Here is my bike room. Though I have a decent storage area in the vintage shop, these bikes are too nice to risk someone breaking in to steal them. Those in the shop are expendable.

Hanging is the 1898 Glenwood path racer with wooden rims. Others are the Trek 760, Miyata 712, ‘77 Colnago Super and the one with the wheel peeking out is the 88 Criterium Series that is my daily road warrior.

In addition, I have two more that normally are hung for the winter, plus a spare hood for my 1960 Volkswagen Beetle.

I guess the Trek 900 mountain bike falls under expendable?

You mean the snowbike (830 Antelope)? That stays out in the snow.

Sadly my 3 sit outside under individual covers unless it’s going to be super windy or rainy then they sit in the dining room. Fortunately it’s SoCal so weather is mild and there is little rain. We have a shed on one side full of the kids bikes and my lady’s cruiser. Mine are in the back, behind a gate, protected by our German Shepherd and two small mutts

You should check out a thread I started a while back in the C&V group, titled "Where do your bikes live". I did not know people had such amazing bike collections stored in the most incredible bike caves. It was like looking into a dream.

I now have a garage inferiority complex. Wait, I’m over it already. Nice hanger systems though.

Mine just hang on hooks from roof joists. Nothing exciting or sexy. Nothing to see here, just move along.

Bike hook, so the bike is upright with front wheel in the crook and the rear on the ground. Easy in and out. Oh yeah, I use a retaining wire on the front wheel to the hook. I'm not worried about it generally falling out, but we do live in earthquake country!

The previous owners of our house expanded the kitchen into what was once a one-car garage. So, now we have what I think of as bicycle parking and what my wife insists on calling "the pantry." This is where her bike and my daughters' bikes hang. The strip and hook combo came from Ace Hardware. The hooks can slide along the strip.

There are three more bikes hanging from the ceiling of the shed and one on a trainer in my bedroom.

I forgot to mention this is the Garage Gator Motorized Bike Lift GG8220 overhead storage with 220 max load.

I use the same system. Mine is branded Rubbermaid and is sold at Home Depot. This is great as you can move the spacing of the hooks very easily. Also use the trick shown on SJX426's post above, where he alternates the bikes front wheel up, rear wheel up, front wheel up, etc. The spacing can be reduced significantly as you don't have the handlebars hitting each other.

Some scrap lumber; mostly 2 X 2's, a few screws, and a little labor. Works fine if you have some floor space. Other bikes that get less use are hanging on hooks in the ceiling.

Mine leans up against my work bench. After seeing the above pic I am going to put some of my scrap wood to use. Great idea.

I keep my ebike in my heated garage, which is good for the battery. It’s a tight squeeze for my car so I needed to clear the floor and even the wall where I wanted to put the bike. I deal with this I use the Zeroth Gravity bike rack (zerogravityracks.com). It lifts the bike off the floor without the need for me to be able to reach the garage ceiling for hanging - all but impossible for this ladder-less condo dweller.

Thankfully my wife's car is fairly short, so these five are in the garage against the wall in front of her car. When I have some special antique bikes on hand, they go into my home office. I don't have any of those right now, but here was a recent one.

4 x 8 bump out in our garage. We downsized in march 2021 and this solved my storage concerns.

Bikes: 2011 ICE Sprint Special Edition

No garage, live in a 2nd. floor one bedroom apartment, lucky for me the wife loves to ride her bicycle as much as I do so we found a apt. with a LONG front room and use the bottom half as our "garage"!
