shhhh … let me enjoy what appears to be a stretch of five nice days with sun … no rain … I must have been transported somewhere…

I couldn’t get out to ride today until 3pm. Surprisingly it wasn’t bad. The clouds helped but it was a little humid.

65 degree dew point is only moderately humid. Dew point is 73 here in NYC today if only 83 degrees outside. Humidity is 73%. The last few days have been a lot less humid and I rode.

In reading Tour de France articles about stuff - not results, I ran across Ice Vests. Made me think of this thread. For time trial warm-ups, so likely not good for long rides. every little bit helps.

OK, this last one isn't bike tech, but it's still an important performance product for time trials. Across the team paddock on Wednesday, with the sun searing towards 30°C, ice vests were commonplace on the backs of riders readying themselves for their roll-outs.

Keeping core body temperature down is crucial to prevent overheating, and stop riders from 'blowing up' during the effort.

Tudor squad is supplied ice vests by Dutch company Inuteq, who also provide products to runners, footballers, and even MotoGP motorcyclists.

well … that didn’t work out so well …

went for a ride on Wednesday - forecast to be cloudy but no rain - and of course it rained

felt a few drops and then light rain around five miles in - and then around the halfway point steady rain

and a real mess on the crushed limestone trail - cement-like crapola all over everything

small victory vs mother nature yesterday

headed north to escape the heat : 90 degrees at our house when we left - but just 83 degrees at the trailhead parking lot when we arrived just over an hour later … and then felt cooler on the trail next to the river in the shade ***

and finished the ride 30 minutes before a short rain shower

a double win - - appreciated especially after the previous ride in the rain and slop !

Hot today. It's after 7 pm and it's still 110 degrees. Monday is supposed the hottest day of this week at 112ish+-
Early morning is the only real time it's ok to ride

It's 6 am Tuesday in Las Vegas and the temperature is 84 degrees with 28% humidity. It's "only" supposed to reach 109 degrees by mid afternoon. The fly in the ointment is the return of the monsoon season with possible rain and thundershowers for Thursday through Sunday. It's really nasty (and dangerous) to ride in the rain due to all of the accumulated road grime when it first rains. The valley was built without underground storm basins to carry away the rain. If the rain is intense, the streets will flood. Through the past two decades the county has built many flood detention basins to slow down the flow of water to Lake Meade. It used to be common to see pictures of people stranded on the top of a vehicle in one particular railroad underpass. Not so much lately. It's a good idea to stay home if thunderstorms are imminent.
