Heat
It looks like most of the country is going to be very hot this week. Some of y’all are not used to it or acclimated to it. Stay hydrated, ride early or late, hydrate.
After my heart cath tomorrow I will know if I can get out and ride in this. The doc wants me to wait until he takes a look.

I agree. The temps we're experiencing are pretty tough, but not that unusual for the general DFW area this time of year.
My last ride was Saturday morning fairly early.
Keeping you in our thoughts on the heart cath.

97 F high, 65% RH on the backyard weather station today. 124 F heat index at peak. It's definantly not exercise weather.
I rode at sunrise when the deer were out.

Good luck. Listen to your Doc. That has always served me well. I'm back on my bike for short, slow rides 6 weeks after hernias surgery.

This July I've been getting out and acclimatizing But high 90s and full sun is too much. Yesterday my buddy and I hit the rail trail, and that's 90% shaded which is super nice.

I delivered meals to sick people this morning then took care of indoor things. Going to take care of shopping (via car) tomorrow, before the heat busting storms hit. Friday looks to be wet for the morning/afternoon, so the planned long weekend bike tour will likely be just an overnight trip.

LAD has minor blockage- not enough to do anything about.
Another is completely blocked. He couldn’t get through it but somehow it created its own bypass. This looked to have happened a while ago. He said he will decide if he needs to do anything after a stress test.
Tomorrow is carotid doppler and aaa sonogram to check aorta.

Good luck with your cardiac issues. I have a total of 3 stents with some heart muscle damage but have come back to reasonable condition.
Heat definitely has an effect though.

S Texas has had a cool summer so far. A few 100 degree days like today but with low humidity. Usually we a baking to death in high heat humidity. But August is upon us so we will see. Upper 90s is cool for this time of the year lol.

I had planned to ride early this morning, but when I walked opened the door the air was so humid and thick it was hard to breathe. At 77 years old, I thought it best to use the old bike I have on a trainer and watch some TV while riding. This summer has provided too many of these days. Heat, humidity, storms and wind. Even on decent days I am restricted to early rides because of a bout with skin cancer. I'm actually looking forward to shorter days and cooler weather.

Heat really affects me now. I always ride wearing a HRM and can tell when it's time to back down, find a shady spot, and rest. My HR normally goes up on efforts/climbs (and there are plenty of those around here) but drops back to normal quickly. When it gets really hot, I notice the recovery time starts to increase. Once I finished a particularly hard climb that maxed out my BPM. I was enjoying the long downhill coast, but my HR stayed up there, only coming down a small amount. At the bottom of the descent I stopped, rested under a shady tree, and drank a whole bunch of Gatorade. When my HR finally came down, I got back on the bike but took it really easy. It was 94 degrees and humid that day.

3 stents with heart muscle damage here as well. My cardiologist loves that I exercise regularly on my bike.

I have had several checkups with a cardiologist starting before that and none of my ecgs show signs of a heart attack. I have had 2-3 cardio stress tests and aced them. I don’t get out of breath, my pulse goes up slowly exercising and goes down at a normal speed. I have had no chest pains. None of my blood work shows signs of a heart attack.
I had a sonogram of my heart, aorta and carotid doppler today. I should get those results soon.
I will be taking another stress test to make sure the bypass I grew is delivering enough blood. If not doc is going through the femoral and poking the blockage with a harder probe.
I’m restricted to lifting only 5 pounds for 5 days and not exercising for the same. After that I will be on my bike or at the gym depending on the temp.
The toughest part of the heart cath was they went through my wrist. My right wrist. I’m right handed. 😄
I have no idea if this is why it is so tough to do longer rides.

Medical issues aside I've found what you consume during the ride can make a huge difference. I'm diabetic so use sugar free Gatorade and can't do without it on hot days but find whatever brand electrolyte drink works for you. Also don't forget to keep the calories up as bonking can be mistaken for something more serious for us senior types.

Well crap. I may have a vertebral carotid artery blocked. Looking that up says elevated heart rate may be dangerous. I can’t wait to talk to my doc.
I am also coming to terms that I may never scuba dive again.
