Lol- the hits just keep coming

I rode today for the first time in at least a couple of weeks.
I went for a yearly low dose CT since I used to smoke and the results this time mentioned a thoracic ascending aorta aneurysm.
Doc sent me for a better CT and it confirmed a 4.6cm x 4.0cm aneurysm.
He says right now it’s stable and I will be getting a CT every 3 months to see if it’s growing and how fast.
The good news is I have no restrictions. When I said I was afraid it would pop while climbing on my bike he laughed and said no, it won’t do that.
After a short 6 mile ride my legs are letting me know I haven’t ridden in a while.
I feel good though.

If you don/t need to worry about the the aneurysm, then you will just need to worry about the radiation every three months.

That's what killed my dad at the age of 46. It was hard growing up without a father. Glad you're getting yours looked at and monitored.

I have a 100% blocked coronary artery but grew my own bypass. Doc says I am good to go.
Doc says I have an aneurysm but no worries.
I laugh at radiation! 🤣

Sometimes they find things too early, sometimes they save your life. Glad they found it and can manage it. G-d speed.

Glad you got to ride, even if just a little. Better than none at all, and much better than riding and causing a problem from an unknown medical problem! More miles to ya in the future!

EXCELLENT

Monday next week is 11 years to the day and date I was given my Prostate Cancer biopsy results. I am a GLEASON 10.

Today at 1:41am out for 13.31 miles. Had to food shop so out again at 6:15am for 4.04 miles. Heading out shortly for another food shopping ride that likely will be 15+ miles.

Until the tank runs dry USE every day to the maximum allowed by one's body.

Usually it's the 2d ride after a short layoff that the legs really complain. Let us know.

Maybe don't put out that big burst of speed too suddenly so you don't prove the doctor wrong. <grin>

Best wishes for your health.

Bikes: Yes

Yeah, I've got one of those. 10 years ago I had an a-fib condition, the cardiologist had a heart-specific CT scan done, and that's when it was found. He did two other yearly scans after that and no change, so now its one every 3 years. He did mention no heavy lifting but basic aerobic exercise like bike riding with labored breathing shouldn't be an issue.

They found mine the same way in November: 4.5cm. Cardiologist said no more than 30lbs and 120 bpm. I can hit 120bpm walking down the street. There doesn't seem to be any consensus on what's safe and what's not.

I will find out in 3 months if it’s stable.
I reviewed notes from the past 7 years of the low dose CT scans. The only other mention of the aorta was from 2022 and it only said it was normal. Those CTs were looking at my lungs. Anything else is incidental.
The liw dose CT said it is 4.5cm and the cardio specific says it’s 4.6cm. A tenth of a cm difference isn’t much but from some reading it’s the difference between being dilated and being an aneurysm.
I need to get my bp back under control.

First of all, good luck!
Which measurement is the length and which the diameter?
When I was getting worked up for my aortic valve replacement, the surgeon mentioned that my aorta was dilated to just below the point at which they would do something. He also said that the store bought valve installation would tighten it up a little.
At our age, going to the hospital is like stopping into the supermarket for a loaf of bread, and coming out with a full cart.

Radiation?
I was treated with a single dose of Iodine113 for Graves Disease in 2009.
That year our dog Freddie wrote in the annual family Xmas letter ¨I know dad is sick and all but now he has a faint glow in the dark. Of course only us dogs can see it. Cats may get to Infrared but it takes a dog to get to XRay!¨
