That was my problem, I DIDN"T like it. But the UA type shorts have solved all my issues, they work great! However, I'm certainly not above trying something that is even better, I might try to find some better padded liners or whatever they are called. But I have to admit that vanity, no matter how sorely misplaced, keeps me from even considering those classic biking shorts...

As to lotions for chafing, I've had this problem for years, even when hiking. I've never had much success with hand lotions, too readily absorbed into the skin. Vaseline works well, but what a sticky mess. Another sticky but effective option is Preparation H - which is essentially vaseline with a medication that helps sooth irritations, which is what chafing is! Yet another is diaper rash oilment, which leaves a gooey, white'ish mess, but isn't too bad and is pretty effective. Gentle enough for a baby's bottom.

What I like is a locally made, unscented soy oil butter. Whipped up out of soy oil and glycerine - it seems to last longer and isn't as sticky. Eucerin (sic) is good too, and you can find store brand equivalents to it. A 16oz jar can last a long time & can be found for around $5. And for a lotion, the Kiss My Face unscented Olive Oil & Aloe is pretty good.
Thank you

Yes ,I was wondering about that , how difficult would it be to steer a conversation down that road with a complete stranger ??
I wear a pair of bike shorts under a pair of ordinary shorts , too self consious to wear the bike shorts on their own
Q "do these bike shorts make my back-side look big ?" A " no, its your fat arse that makes it look so big"

On second thought if Denver can get Tyra Banks to do the modelling, bring it on!

Personally, I prefer to wear something that wicks away any moisture and dry quickly. Modal, microfiber (under armour), coolmax (TravelSmith, Calvin Klien, Nautica, etc), Supplex, Polypro, etc etc all do the job and help prevent chafing and blisters/sores. Silk underwear is harder to find, but some prefer natural materials and feel they are more comfortable yet wick away moisture and dry quickly. A lot of swim trunks and board shorts have coolmax linings/support and that can be a viable alternative.

Udder Balm (cream) and Gold Bond (powder) have been used for years and still work. Runner's Lube/Lube-Stick or Body Glide are also popular.

I recently switched to these for work.
https://www.coolmaxclothing.com/boxerbriefs.html (uh, yes...that's me modeling the product)
I drive a semi all night and cotton sport briefs are absolutely hellish. I've used these for short rides to 30 miles or so with my Brooks B67's. Ordinary nylon baggies outer-side. Seem to be ok, but nothing beats a pair of padded, non-gel spandex bike shorts, commando.

Come on, come on, come on!! These are societal rules and conformance is not optional. Get with the program.

Perhaps I don't do it because it is too near hardware, software, and fleshware?? Good catch.

This "underwear - no underwear" discussion can go on forever, however, it's one of those decisions we all must make on our own. Many people use these cycling undies that have some padding, and add just a bit of comfort. See for yourself, they are actually very comfortable.
