I headed out for a 20.4 mile ride as a preemptive strike on Thanksgiving calories. It was a beautiful, sunny, calm, brisk 35F morning and I saw several walkers and one rider out enjoying the day.

- Wrapped gifts for friends I won't see at Christmas
- finished building a couple of wheels, got the disk rotor clearances perfect, but the tire mount screwed up...oh well
- grabbing a shower and heading out to see friends...

Happy Thanksgiving all!

It's perfectly sunny, no wind, and temps in the 60s here in sunny FLA. One daughter and her husband came in from Tallhassee yesterday, one daughter came from Gainesville last night (but she's sick with a bad cold and very happy to be sleeping in her own bed), another daughter coming in from Gainesville later this afternoon. She just got back from a conference in Germany and also has a bad cold. The turkey's in the oven, the pies are baked, the Macy's parade is over, and time for an hour outdoors. I really like Thanksgiving.

It was beautiful here this morning, and I rode 35.5 miles by myself, starting from my driveway.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

Rode the fixie 15 miles this morning. 32F, wind N 10-15, overcast. Great ride. To celebrate my 62nd birthday I decided to see if I could ride a fixed gear. Have ridden about 150 miles now. I'm definitely hooked. Longest ride to date: 50 miles. Goal is 12 metric centuries and at least 1 full century on the fixie in 2009.

Just back from 29.6 miles on a 45 degree day, no moisture falling (for once).

I just realized that this puts me over 5,000 miles for the year (so far) - 5,006 miles since Jan. 1.

Ran into another 50+ rider at Starbucks who got bit on the butt by a labrador while walking his recumbent through an intersection.

I think the lesson is don't ride recumbents?

We're at the Louisiana residence. Planned a ride this morning before commencement of the feeding frenzy. Woke up, looked out window, and rain! Instead of the ride we went for a ride in the National Forest in the truck before dinner.

We had a house full for Thanksgiving dinner, one of the son's friends, the son's girlfriend, the daughter, the daughter's boyfriend, my mother, mois, and my beloved. I figured today was doomsday and therefore ate like there was no tomorrow.

To fight off the tryptophan downfall after the turkey, several of us went out in the woods with various and sundry firearms and blazed away at various and sundry paper targets. Yes, we were shooting into a large berm as a backstop. The BF 50+ member of the group, your reporter, represented the old crowd well by humbling the children (20+, know-it-all age group) and demonstrating the finer points of gun control (impacting one's target precisely at the desired location on said target). The daughter came in a close second and out shot her boyfriend.

The female contingent is planning a shop-till-you-drop tomorrow, and yours truly will pedal assuming the forecast precipitation doesn't roll in too early.

It was a great day with great food, great family and friends, and great fellowship.

Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Hi All,
I took my daily ride today at noon...temp was upper 50's. I rode app. 12 miles, which currently is plenty for me as I'm just getting back into riding again, after a layoff of a decade or so. I rode on a newly paved section of highway that hasn't yet opened for automobiles (will open any day now). It was great to be able to ride on new pavement and not have to worry about traffic...a luxury that will soon end. Best Wishes to all.

We did the Mount Hamilton Hill climb. There was a fabulous turnout and the weather was okay - 45 degrees with slightly damp roads and some fog.

While checking in, a woman asked my wife if she wanted to join the "Sisters of No Mercy" Team. I love the name.

I improved my time from last year by 11 minutes and felt strong the last 7 miles of the climb. I am very happy with the result. Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Met up with a dozen friends for a 45 mile ride into the local mountains. Some of the roads were wet but we didn't get rained on. TV said there was snow up there but we didn't go that high. Came home to a giant feast created by my girlfriend.
Gotta work tomorrow, they told us they would be open for at least 6 more months, yea.
Thankful? I'm thankful our rental house didn't burn down in the recent fires, 2 neighbors lost theirs.
I'm thankful I still have some income, although it's not much.
I'm very thankful that I can still ride a bicycle with friends.
I'm even thankful that I discovered Bike Forums and I've had fun reading this stuff.

Had a great turkey day. Family over for the traditional 'stuff the turkey with turkey.' At sunset, we set off the bonfire. True to BlazingPedals tradition, it's not a bonfire unless it can be seen from space! We have some new neighbors who didn't realize what was going on, and they called the fire department, saying there was a forest fire! No harm done, they verified with their dispatcher that we had a permit and, everything was under control. When they came to check, we were tossing snowballs into the coals.

Tomorrow I'm doing a 45-mile club bike ride.

Oh -- mandatory picture.

I think you can now say, it's not a bonfire unless the fire department arrives.

Nice pies, BTW.

Or don't get off your recumbent.

Seriously, the biggest fear I have with riding my 'bents is defending myself from dogs.

A big congrats on the 5000+ miles!

I'm I am secondary snow belt in the higher grounds South/West of Cleveland in Medina County. The group met in Valley City. When the lake effect winds come out of the North we get snow. Where we started the ride there was about 4" of snow. We rode East into the higher ground into Hinkley (only 450 foot higher) where there was 8" of snow. While riding down a road with snow on each side I thought what a great picture that would make with the guys ahead, but trying to take the camera out of my pocket and push the little button with my cold fingers would be a poor idea.

I rode, and it was needed after 6 days off the bike due to business travel abroad. I made up for lost time with 32 miles completed along the Chicago lakefront.

It was 18F TG morning so I drove to work. Drove home 12.5 hours later. Turkey, etc., for pitch-in lunch and leftover turkey, etc., at home. Yum!
Out for a ride later today, instead of shopping.

Rode of course. And picked up six lilikoi ("passion fruit") along the ride... not part of the Thanksgiving menu but we don't find cranberries here anyway...

I went for a solo ride on Thanksgiving, just me and the Surly. It seemed strange to be out riding my bike alone on Thanksgiving afternoon, but it was nice just the same. As I passed by the homes during my warm-up through the neighborhood, I could smell the scents of Thanksgiving dinner cooking. The scents along with the fall colors and crisp fall air added up to a perfect ride.

This is the trail head on the western side, about 5 miles from home.
