I've replaced fans in computers with quieter ones and disabled the fan in my air circulator at work.
Same with white sound generators, they give me headaches.

I have slept a lot of my life away! My first wife didn't approve of all my sleeping, would wake me up when she thought I'd had enough. She was not a cyclist. My 2nd (present!) wife is a cyclist, and lets me sleep all I want, 'cause it's good for recovery! Gotta having a wife that rides bikes too.

I'm a world-class sleeper. I often fall asleep on the runway before the plane takes off, in meetings, under trees during rest breaks on rides. To ensure the perfect weekend nap, I go for a hard morning ride, come back, eat lunch, drink a beer, find a golf tournament on tv, and lie down on the couch.

Ideally, I'd get 9-10 hours a night, but it's hard to get to bed by 8:15 (I get up at 5:15 in order to eat breakfast, pack up my clothes, ride the 12 miles to work, shower, get dressed and be at my desk by 8:00). It usually takes me a little while to fall asleep, and I typically wake up twice for a "bio break" during the night. Don't usually have problems getting back to sleep.

I'm a sleeping machine.
Weekdays - Bed around 9:00, fall asleep in 2 minutes, up at 5:15 for work
Weekends - Still bed around 9:00 (unless I'm out), up around 6:30-7:00
I guess I average around 9 hrs. My wife hates me, she the toss/turn person. I sleep so sound I don't even dream.

I try to drink water in the evenings -- usually a full water bottle plus 1 or 2 cups of hot lemon water. By 8:30 I can't keep my eyes open. I'm usually in bed before 9, asleep by 9:03. I'll wake up once to "dump ballast" (aforementioned liquids) and crash back into bed.
The dog wakes us with revolting noises around 6AM. Off to work by around 7. The cycle continues...
If I take a nap or drink much alcohol, I'll wake up in the middle of the night, but usually only for an hour or so.

My sleep seems to work with the Sun.
Rarely go to bed before 11 and I struggle to fall asleep- but when the Sun comes up- I am awake. Not too bad in the winter when it gets light around 8am- except I have to be awake by 6. In the summer I just keep wondering why the nice evening song of the blackbirds turns into a full blown bellow by 4.

Glad I saw this poll. Makes me feel better, as I seem to be in the majority. Toss and turn, get no more than 6 hrs. The last two and a half weeks have been worse, due to quiting smoking. The nicotene withdrawal screws up the sleep cycle even more than normal. Wish I could get just one good, full night's sleep....

Sadly the bladder wakes me up 2 to 3 times a night and I have very senitive hearing and live in a aparment complex, if I didn't "Run a fan" all year long at night, I'd NEVER get to sleep Still I do think I sleep "sounder" if not long if I've ridden my bicycle that day, than if I played DISC GOLF our did nothing! I also sometimes wake up do to the pain's in my ankles, etc. due to "chronic Reiter's Sydrome", (a type of arthritis) or the (from my father's side), Family CURSE, of painful reaccuring hemiroids. Probably 4 to 5 hrs. a night at best!

can't sleep past sunrise
HI,
Work PM's I am addicited to ridding a bike, I m ashamed to Join Bike Riders Anominus or JRAA, I go to bed at 11:30PM, by 06:30 I am checking the weather channel for wind direction and weather reports and putting on gear, making coffee, and 2 litter of my favorite zero cal electrolite beverage, by 0700 in the car heading to the launch site. by 0715 bike heading for the trail .
Its and addicition not sure how to stop..

I can stay up till the Leno show and normally sleep till 7am. I have the Cell phone set for a 7:20 am get up time in case I do sleep in. I am out the door by 8:15 am to go for a ride and home by noon. I can sleep till 8 or sometimes 9 on Saturday but that doesn’t happen too often.

1. I did a study of napping and found that napping doesn't affect how well I sleep (results here).
2. I've found that earplugs help me stay asleep. It took a few weeks before I could tolerate having them in all night.

I usually sleep 7-8 hrs per night, go to bed between ten and eleven, then up at6:30to 7:30. Almost never nap. I do find that I sleep more soundly and deeply on days when I exercise and I enjoy the sleep more.

I never got to bed before 11 how late I sleep depends on work if I go to work at 8 I get up at 6 if I go to work later I sleep later.If I am off I sleep until 9 or 10.I have very little problem sleeping sometimes I will get up 1 time to pee but usually I sleep all night.

I work an evening shift, then sleep from about 4 am to 1 pm. Actually that's only 8 hrs, the first hour is trying to sleep. Lately I've been using a little melatonin (about .5 mg) to help sleep more deeply and quickly. Better dreams too, I just have to be careful not to overdo it, as it can extend the drowsiness into the next day.

I sleep like a rock.4-5 hours a night.In bed at midnight or so,up at 5 am,if I like it or not.If I sleep more hours,I'm dragging ass all day.Like someone else said,I'll have plenty of sleep in a few years.

When I was younger (I'll be 54 next week) I used to pretty much sleep great most anytime and anywhere. I traveled in a rock-n-roll band for years and years and could sleep through anything.
Now that I'm older and settled with a family and the usual crap boring job (all daytime hours at least-computers and stuff) I don't sleep as well. I am usually up by 5:30 in the morning, 5:00 on Tuesdays and Thursdays, my work-out days during the week. Ride the bike to and from work, and around 22:00 (sometimes earlier) can't hold my eyes open and go down hard into a deep sleep. Good so far, but...
In anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours I pop awake, as if someone sneaked in and shot me up with a dose of speed, whereupon I start flopping around like a beached fish, usually dozing off for 15-45 minutes at a time in an unsatisfying light sleep until drifting off into deep sleep for a point just before alarm-time. Lots of times I pull out of that lil' patch of wonderful deepness before the alarm goes off but sometimes I am so under it I don't know who the hell I am for a couple of seconds!
If I happen to play on the weekends, and get to bed around 3:30 or 4 am, my body still wakes up no later than 7 or so.
I've tried some sleep stuff, both over the counter and prescription, but it either dopes me out the next day or just doesn't work.
I tell my wife that if I could just sleep well, I could rule the world!
