Managed a 2 segmented ride yesterday/today. Began 8:34pm yesterday with temps low 80°F humidity close to 100% as the winds were settling down and rode a slow/easy/sweating bullets 83 miles. Met Ghost Rider as he was heading home so I took a coffee/NY Style Cheesecake break at Café Ghost Rider then back out for another 38 miles.

The east side of Puget Sound, especially the foothills towns, hit 70*. First time since Sept. Low humidity and full sun. Finished a new-to-me bike, built up from a frameset. Also posted more photos in C&V ride thread.

Nice half an hour ride through almost empty streets of Jupiter, FL, 8 miles, good enough as I am trying to restart my regular biking trips this year. Still mostly trying to work on improving my running endurance which seems to be exhausting and putting much stress and strain on my cardiovascular and musculoskeletal system. Biking seems to be perfect cross training between runs and vice versa. All pools, beaches still closed. Weather near perfect mid to high 70's in the morning, light wind, sun on and off, and some rain too.

Yep (yesterday actually). Our first 20 miler of the season. Also my first ride with padded bike shorts - had a small positive impact I think.

After the second or third ride you'll wonder how you ever rode without them. And wait until you try Bibs, most of us never go back to actual shorts. :)

16 miles today. It was uphill against a 10 MPH wind going North - but downhill with the wind at my back going home. Nice! That was about 131' of climbing over 8 miles.:) HRM said I stayed between 125 and 140 most of the way out, and 105-115 on the way home.

40 miles in humid and rather blustery conditions here in FL. Really just getting back into it, my weight is up and speed is down. But I can fix that with a bit of work.....

Yippers! Attended church then off for a slow paced road ride to be with nature and do some praying.
Here I am loaded back up. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...3b2a0f529a.jpg |
120 miles, 3 of us each between 54-63, 8,919 feet of climbing. 15 mph average. Over 29 miles of climbing really brings that average down. :)

The GF and I did a quick 14 miler - pretty windy around Stoney Creek this evening. |
Today I led six other cyclists on a 70-85 mile loop ride I organized with 3,000-3,500 of elevation gain. I had two opt for the shorter 70 mile version. My own ride was 85.6m with 3,500ft and average of 17.3mph. All participants rode from home. I was the youngest of the group, at 54.
Just another great day on the bike, at a social distance of course. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...679ee9b5a0.jpg |
30 miles in the mountains of VA just before the rain arrived. I’ve added a side road to my standard loop which increases both mileage and elevation. The paved section of Quaker Run Road is about 3 miles in and out, and gets increasingly steeper before turning to gravel. With wider tires, I can extend it another 4-5 miles - another reason to get a new bike.

After not riding for a couple days as winter showed up yet again I was able to ride today. And I even took my first spill since returning to riding few weeks ago. It wasn't bad. I was on a trail around a small lake, taking routes to avoid others as much as possible (usually easy in this park), and saw a group of people walking dogs ahead. There were also some people fishing nearby, so I decided to turn around.
As I have been feeling more confident on my bike, I figured I could turn around within the trail without dismounting. Turns out not quite. I was nearly around, but at the edge of the embankment leading into the lake, so I decided to stop, awkwardly slipped off the pedal and tilted over before I could catch myself properly. But I was fine, discovered getting up has become much easier with 200lbs less of me, and heard a woman having a good laugh. So I rode around the trails some more, towards the end heard a bit of a squeak from the cassette, took the bike home and gave it a good wash, lubed the chain, and oiled the shocks. According to Strava I've now ridden the bike 238kms (147.9 miles). |
I hopped on the Moto GT and got a quick 16 miles yesterday afternoon after logging off from work. 80 degrees with a light breeze, and home for dinner with the lovely Mrs. Camjr. I did change the original Selle Italia saddle out for an Origin 8 saddle I had laying around. I was having problems with the old saddle riding back on the rails and not staying put.

My buddy and I did a rolling 30 miler that we did almost exactly a month ago.
I felt a bit tired and was somewhat disappointed with the ride overall. Then, after I downloaded my Garmin, I looked back at our ride from March 23......... we averaged .90mph faster today.....................now I know why I got tired, and am no longer bummed............. |
Hit the 1,000 mile mark for 2020 today

High 50s, low chance of rain while I plan to be out. Compact double for hills. Specialized Turbo tubulars for a heavenly ride. Endurance geometry before it was ‘invented’.
3 days off the bike so fresh legs make a ride more fun. Good looking bike Wildwood. I've found the same thing about three days off the bike; at 70 yrs. my legs feel a lot fresher after three days than they do after two and certainly after one day. I used to ride back to back to back to back and give it no thought. Sigh. But at least I can be out there and still find things to enjoy. :)
