so like I said above this was my first ride on a new bike I picked up Monday. An early 70th birthday present, Trek Domane AL5 disc. Took a 21 mile loop down a bike path here in Falmouth on Cape Cod. Love the bike, my LBS spent 90 mins fitting me for the bike on Monday. My story is a former runner for 20 years, but running is a self selecting sport so at 50 I moved into rowing on an erg at my local gym COVID hits and the shut down so I had a 12 year old tank of a Globe hybrid that I pulled out,had tuned, and started riding. That was around a year and a half ago. I really started to enjoy cycling so I thought it would be a good idea to upgrade. Good ideas are not my specialty but this one was. Thankful for such a nice morning
be well everyone

I used to ride from Quincy to Falmouth just about every weekend in the summer. Friend's family had a house on Race Point there, so I would crash for the night and ride home the next day. Rte 28 through the center of town got a bit "iffy" during the summer months. You really had to be on your toes if you were cycling. Traffic was crazy!

Yep, 52.5 km around the big lasso. Good ride, but it will take one or two more to get back to the "pre-Wildfire-Smoke" condition.
Retired some of my old shorts that lasted me since the early '80s, the new stuff will outlast me, I'm positively certain of that!

What a good day to be out. Highs topping out mid-70s and starting low 60s & sunny.

I crashed two weeks ago. Nothing, other than my pride, was broken, but I had some deep cuts, road rash and a very bruised hip and leg. Oh, and the bike was ok.

I couldn’t walk comfortably, let alone consider riding. But after two weeks, I was healing and the limp was almost gone, so I took the bike on a spin around my neighborhood. A total of about 1 1/2 miles.

Other than a bit of a twinge on my knee, no pain! Even in the hours after the ride.

In many ways I felt this was as much of an accomplishment as my first 40 plus miles ride. It doesn’t take much, I guess.

rsbob 08-31-21 09:23 PM

Haven’t ridden in five days. Caught a doozy of a head cold from my 3 year old grandson. Probably will not be on it for a few more days either. The grandson currently has an R value of six or R6 (both parents and both sets of grandparents). Good thing he didn’t have COVID.

This is the week to try out my equal half's Quest ebike:

Mainly to find out what the range of the battery is. The best bet to get consistency in our neighbourhood: the flat Big Lasso aka ORT including Woodlake.

The first day I was playing with the power assist to see how much that increases consumption. Got to Kilometre 20 and "chickened out", I had no intentions to use the beast in standard analog mode and with a bar readout one is at best guessing.
Yesterday I set the PA to step one, cranked up the cadence and ..... at the PA limit (20mph/32kmh) in gear 8; my BPM was at a paltry 118 and cadence at 68.

The short of the long .... I just ordered a e-MTB that seems exactly what I was looking for the past few days. One of the advantages: instead of the bar readout it has a % display.

Two days = 94 K. One hilly 64K ride planned for tomorrow. SWMBO in stand-by mode in case the battery goes to empty. :foo: :foo:

That means my resolution of "no e-bike prior to my 80th birthday" went out the window. :50:

Got an easy, flat 50 on a favorite. Sprinty lil devil it is. Maybe the red. Maybe the 23mm front and 25 rear tubulars pumped hard.

And a nice new custom saddle and new jersey.

Nice pictures and nice bikes guys. Doohickie, yours is the reason I have to ride but boy what a great reason to ride! Hahaha. I love it.

Wildwood - NICE bike and I love the colour and wear on that saddle. Very nice!

I made 15.5 (km) today which is a long way for me. I'm just getting started and never really rode a bike except when I was a kid and man it's a lot tougher than I remember.....

The distances you all cover is awe inspiring and a shake my head moment for me. My hat's off to ya!

Nice 30 miler (yesterday), but with an extended climb I took too aggressively, perhaps. Stiff this morning.

I made it to Sunset Beach about 2:30 Friday afternoon. 103 miles today. Thank goodness for the clouds today as it was muggy as heck. Very flat today which meant hardly any coasting …..which can be as tiring as hills.

Pretty uneventful trip except for a fully loaded logging truck and a vehicle from New Jersey. They weren’t playing nicely.

At least it was dry all day. Margaritas and cold beer afterwards plus local seafood were very welcome.

Kind of crisp today, 10º C, time to check on Amazon for cycling tights.
BTW getting the right gear and PA level allows me to just keep turning at a "slacker pace"; I call that perfect for the recovery day. :50:

Did 52 miles on this mornings group ride near Charlotte, NC. The miles weren't the killer of my knees, but the 2200ft elevation gain was. Beautiful day!

Where were you riding around Charlotte? I usually average around 2500’ per 50 miles so it sounds like very typical terrain for our area. It’s a great area for training if you know roads that get you away from traffic.

Yes. I ride with CAC (Charlotte Area Cycling) and connect with the Meetup app. I expect the elevations, but hate when it's all at second half, but..I'm just thankful there are ppl to host the rides. Had a great summer doing many rides with CAC.
