40 flat rural miles today on a club ride. Got a good workout trying to stay on the back of the fast group for a few miles, then trying to stay with a not-quite-so-fast group for another 10 miles. Then rode most of the rest of the way at my own slower pace. Until I was passed 5 miles from the end by the fast group - they had done an extra 17 mile loop. Again tried to stay with them for a mile or so......another good workout as they disappeared into the distance.
Yesterday rode 18 miles with wife and son.

35 miles, 85 to 98 degrees this am. Now it is 103 degrees in Downey (2:50 pm) and 110 degrees at Santa Fe Dam, where i rode to this am. Left at 9 am and back at 11:30 am. Went and took a cold shower. Sunny with no clouds and no wind. Felt tired on the way out but better on the way back. Talked to other riders and all were tired from the heat. Most had ridden the last two or three days. On the good side i have lost 8 pounds in the last three days.

I rode exactly 10 feet. Then stopped to adjust my mirror. Then got rear-ended by a neighbor from up the street. I'm doing a lot better than my bike, fortunately!

I rode the Santa Ana River Trail in 100 degree temps today. There's nothing like drinking hot water when you're thirsty...

I ignored the clock at half hour intervals this moring starting at 6 until at 8, dragged my self out of bed only to hear the first few drops of ran hitting the window. So I read the paper, watched a movie with my wife and just lazed around until it was nice and sunny at ~2. Took the dogs to a park to run, putzed around the house until dinner and it was too dark to ride.
I just did my penance by putting in 20 miles on the rollers.

47 miles today and it was gorgeous out -- 60 degrees and I even had a tailwind for a while (the wind is always blowing here, but it usually seems to be a headwind). There wasn't a lot of traffic out -- I was passed by a pickup with a horse trailer about 10 miles into the ride, and then by another pickup with about 10 miles left to go. Unfortunately, a 3rd vehicle passed me with just 100 yards left in the ride -- I didn't have enough left in me to try to out sprint it. Needless to say, I didn't see any other bicyclists out on the road, although I did see 2 earlier this summer.

Went to a local cyclo cross practice held on a private property that is also a race venue. We rode the race course several laps to warm up, did dismount/mounts, 8 simulated race starts followed by two x 1 race pace laps. It was rainy, windy, 55 degrees and muddy, everything that makes cyclo cross fun. Rode a total of 12.8 miles with an 8.8 mph average. The bike and my clothing are a muddy mess.

Did a couple of hours - tailwind to blow me up the hill, headwind to slow me down coming back. Somehow one just gets used to the wind, and it doesn't bother me much any more.

No swimming

Had tremendous back pain last night and did not sleep, even with the Vicodin. I hope for a better night tonight.

69 miles, 94 degrees(burrrr), it really is cooling off. Not much wind, hi clouds, beaches were nice, so was the shredded beef taco. Wore a long sleeve under layer, protection from the cold.

Took my bike grocery shopping. Not far, but a big hill coming home.
Eggs and bananas made it home without incident.
