20 miles with the LBS owner and one other rider before the shop opened. 'bout 55 degF. Saturday is a short day since the shop opens at 10am and usually easier than the Sunday pace. I need for some really old guys (70+) to show up so I might have a chance to be the drop'er rather than the drop'ee.

Rainy this morning so I skipped the club ride and went out alone a little later. Climbed into a cloud.

Cold going down there. http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u...S2010011-6.jpg Looking back up after the second climb. http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u...3/S2010015.jpg |
Finally swapped saddles. Did a 10 mile test ride yesterday . . . I think I like it. My legs were rubber from the day before; couldn't go further.
Rode 20 miles today. I was still tired and sore, but it was too beautiful a sunny fall day to pass up. I love nature and being outside, and the loop I ride has some nice spots: horse farms, sheep, brooks & streams, and of course occasionally, deer. Lifts my spirits : ) Tomorrow'll be a day of rest. (Purchased bike and began cycling on 10/2/10. Have ridden 297 miles so far. Surprised myself!) |
YES!! The wife and I got in a very pleasant 28+ miles riding around the area. Stopped into Front Range BBQ for a great pulled pork sandwich and rootbeer! For the day before Halloween, the weather was great, very brezzy but not cold or wet so we HAD to ride! :)

Picked up my new wheels yesterday (hand built Mavic Open Pro, 32 spoke) to replace my 10-year old wheels (same type). Took them out for a ride today. Only did 30 miles. It was my first "cool" ride of the season. The temp was ~53F (12C) when I left home. The arm warmers felt great.
The new wheels were wonderful. Its amazing how something as simple as new wheels can make the ride so enjoyable. |

I did a few miles in my continuing recovery from back surgery. Extremely windy, wife was worried the wind would blow me over. Nah, not a chance!!

Cyclo cross race today. Wearing a costume allowed for a 30 second head start. Of the 40+ riders only about 5 riders were without costumes. During the warmup prior to the C race I decided that I was riding my 29'er faster than my cross bike. By the time we raced the course tightend up and I would have been better riding my cross bike. Tomorrow's race is at the same location and I'll use the cross bike.

small ride today
Wife and I rode 10.5 miles today. Was a nice late afternoon ride. Kind of windy gust up to 16mph. I got a good work out fighting the head wind. Had fun and relaxed a little also.

I rode with NealH on the Tour de Franklin metric this morning. We started the ride in the mid 30šs and finished in the low 70s. With a wrong turn and a detour back to the car to drop/change clothes to our summer kit, we had 68 miles in 5 hours total time with 5600' of climbing and plenty of stops (probably around 4:15 hours of ride time). I'm just not in good enough shape right now to ride much faster. Beautiful day on a nice course. The after ride food was outstanding. I really like the Standing Indian climb which comes late in the ride. It is 1600' in 4.4 miles but gets steeper as one climbs. It is such a quiet road with great views.

8 miles today in my recovery from the fusion process.

52 miles, felt like my old self. Overcast and cool to start but ended sunny and 69 degrees. Calm with almost no wind! Used 52/13 most of the day, getting ready for next Saturday.

Mild weather in the mid- 40's. Raced cyclo cross for the 2nd day at the same venue. We rode the course in the reverse direction today. In the B race yesterday I finished 26 of 41 riders. Today's finish was probably around the same.
My son came up from Columbus and rode in the A race. This is him coming out of the "twin tubes of death":D, as it was referred to the day before in at yesterdays Halloween race. The racers made a 180 turn into the first tube then another 180 degree turn and back out the other side. http://i489.photobucket.com/albums/r...5/IMG_2230.jpg |
I believe he's Troy Polamalu of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Had a nice 42 mile ride that started from home and traveled up 'n down the Chicago Lake-front. A cold dawn and a 15+mph wind kept the crowds away. By noon the weather was very good and the fresh air was badly needed.

I wondered if anyone rode-were there many doing the 100 or was it just a metric. |

Correct, says the guy who grew up outside of the the Burgh! You can see the hair behind the helmet in a pony tail. During warmup it kept blowing around to the front and getting caught in my glasses so I took a rubber band from a new tube and tied it back.
Your wig would go well with this Alice Cooper bike helmet. Next year? http://www.bikeforums.net/asset.php?...8&d=1288571234 http://www.bikeforums.net/asset.php?...8&d=1288571288 |
I rode a 22-mile loop from Ann Arbor to Dexter, MI and back. Rolling hills, stiff wind on the way out, decent tailwind home. I only averaged 13 mph; I've been a sedentary office worker since August 2, and with 2.5 hours of commuting every day. So I'm back into building fitness mode. I need that book on Time-Crunched training.
I did a few metrics this summer, 5 total, lost about 12 pounds, and gained a lot of power and resilience, getting over taller gears. I hope to do a 200k brevet in March down in Ohio - I got work to do. But, this week's ride was easier than last week. I've been doing a 30 minute walk at 120 bpm most evenings, too. It's all softer than a real cycling plan, but it's better than nothing. |
Ah-ha. I see what my problem is. My hair is way too short. In the pursuit of greater speed I've also shaved my sideburns off. I's clear now how long hair will be swept back by the wind into a shape much like an aero time trial helmet. Rode a pleasant 30 miles today trying clipless pedals for the first time. Made a concious effort to pull back at the bottom of the pedal stroke and for the first time my butt cheeks were sore. So I like clipless pedals already if they will make my butt look smaller. This is one benefit that is not in the literature.

16 miles today. Had not ridden since last Thursday when I rode to (and from) work. Had some R. knee discomfort on that ride - I always power away from a start with the right leg - so.....had a couple of rest days and today tried to share the load from stops between both legs and also, stayed on the middle ring more than I have been recently. Spinning faster can mean maintaining the same speed with less stress. I'll be working on that.

25 miles today, 10 yesterday (was suffering from jet lag or I would have gone farther). Great weather both days, upper 70's / low to mid 80's. Today was a bit warmer and windier.
I also had some mild knee discomfort after yesterday's ride - a little pain in the back of the left knee over to the right side. I lowered my seat by about 4mm and the knee didn't feel any worse after 25 miles today so I think I will leave the seat there. Max speed today according to the bike computer was 32.2 mph! That's pretty good considering there weren't any downhill sections. |
