A night ride!!;)my wife woke me up at 11:30 pm, and she went to sleep. I couldn't get back to sleep, so I grabbed a bike out of the room, hooked up one of the lights I purchased from China for $2.98, stuck one on my sock, taped one to my helmet, and off I go into the night..;) Temps was about 70 to 75, so I stuck on shorts and a sweater..I stayed on the local streets. I did about 5 to 6 miles, about 30 minutes riding.. Sweet. And those $2.98 Chinese lights work too...:D

Dam, now those cheapo lights down to $2.48 with free shipping...:D

Were you able to sleep then? I'd be too revved up.
I did 10.5 in drizzly rain and then a downpour. Was planning on 20+ but it was too wet. I'll do the rest on the trainer. The Fuji is really amazing and I like it more every time I ride it. The roads here (Michigan) were just demolished by the ice etc this year and the steel really absorbs the bumps while the aluminum bikes I have are very buzzy on these cruddy roads. My hand still gets numb but the overall position is feeling more comfortable to me.

All in all, I'm not sure if it was even worth the cost (of the gas) spent driving the 35 miles to/from where I ride... Only 7 miles (combination of the wind and my very poor physical condition). :(

This is getting somewhat frustrating - Over the past couple of months I've been able to ride only about once every three weeks or so. I've gone from 23 miles to 13 miles to 7 miles, all due to just pooping out in the springtime wind. Never thought I'd be looking forward to the hot, humid, stagnant-air days of Louisiana summertime... For a while I thought I was making progress, but now I'm not so sure.

I wish I had a place to ride where I wouldn't have to wrestle my 70 pound three-bike rack on/off the van and drive nearly 20 miles each way. I'd love to be able to just take off from the house, but I really don't feel safe doing that. I spend 3 hours each time I do an hour's riding...

55 miles yesterday on my Townie!

WHEW.

thunderworks 05-14-11 12:10 PM

19 miles today puts me at 1,000 YTD. I started riding again last year after nearly 30 years off the bike. It feels great to be getting my bike legs back.

DnvrFox 05-14-11 01:28 PM

19 miles - temp 44F, 2" of snow forecast for tonight, very overcast, great time, many smiles.

horatio 05-14-11 01:59 PM

51 miles. Beat the thunderstorms by a couple of hours. Passed by a five-foot black snake, partially in my lane, around mile 35. Too lazy to get a photo. That's the second one I've seen this spring - the first I saw slithering off my front porch into the shrubs! Haven't checked to see if he's still there.

LAriverRat 05-14-11 02:18 PM

Overcast, 62 degress or so, a little wind, 28 recovery miles from being sick all week, with a visit to the ER. All is almost back to normal.

Today’s sightings: Loads of Cardinals, 2 Box turtles , 4 sandhill cranes, 2 African Spurred Tortoise. The African Spurred Tortoise are also known as the African Spur Thigh Tortoise that live in the Sahara dessert. This tortoise is a mainland tortoise and according to the records, the oldest African Tortoise lived up to 56 years whereas they can live up to 80 years long! They are herbivores and they get their foods from the wild such as dried grass and leaves. They can grow to about a 100 pounds in weight. I met up with my friend Jim and his wife and after a stop at Panera for the usual we rode out to Wekiva Park. On the way home we stopped at the Sylvan Lake Park to watch his granddaughter play soccer. It was a great ride and I got home just as it started to rain.

I was watching the Weather Channel and the dark clouds outside all morning. Decided to go for it. Did 30 miles and no rain. :yay:

That is a lot a Townie. I have one also. Did you change the saddle?

digibud 05-14-11 09:04 PM

It hit 63F today. Went for my first ride in shorts and TShirt. Rolled 50 miles. The first 25 I held my heart rate at 150 which is reasonably high for me (I'm closing in on 60 and overweight). The second half of the ride was a bit slower and more relaxed. It's my longest ride of this season. Yesterday it snowed (but not enough to stick) but I'll guess that's our last look at snow till September.

Slept like a baby! ;).. and it right about that time again, 11:18, and the wifee has to go pick up the daughter and friend from a dance, and I think I will slip out for another midnight ride.. ;)

That rain deal is fun.. Gotta be on my beater bike though, I am not one for getting my bike or motorcycle in the rain. But, the beater is for the bad weather days.. Along with rain gear, the rain ride can be fun, that is, if not too much traffic..

Great ride you had too...:thumb:

Did a Metric on a small, organized ride. Much colder than I expected and I didn't wear knickers. We hit the one real climb early on with some steep pitches beween 10% and 14% (on our tandem) and I wasn't really warmed up. Legs were stiff for the next three hours. Still, we finished and my wife put up with my bad mood thank goodness.

digibud 05-15-11 01:22 AM

what was the temp? curious what cold is to you and where you start adding knickers. 14%. Jeez. I like hills but I don't enjoy seriously steep hills like that. :)

tandemnh 05-15-11 07:06 AM

I rode Saturday

56 miles
>3150' climbing
Max speed 38 mph
Avg speed 17.25 mph
Avg Cad 74 rpm
Temp 65 F

Good ride up and down all day. Kept HR between 150-162 most of the ride. Next Saturday is the Crank the Kank (22 miles, 2400' of climbing). Final week of preperations.

I took my new 2004 C'dale R2000 Triple in for a bike fit on Friday. Big diffence in positioning on the bike. We will see how this new set up fits my ride. Will take a bit of getting use to, but I'm ready to try if it will help improve performance. Up to 235 miles on the new ride.

cruisintx 05-15-11 07:51 AM

add 20 more

started @ 7:00
temp 44*
finished 8:24
avg. spd. 14.6
finishing temp. 51*
YTD total 315 :: just a little over 1/5 of yearly goal.

zacster 05-15-11 10:20 AM

~30 miles for me yesterday, 3 loops of Prospect Park on my carbon bike, and 3 more loops on my classic Italian steel bike. Throw in the side trips to the Brooklyn bike expo and it comes to about 30. I'm still trying to get into better shape to do longer rides, 50+ miles. Maybe I need to start on a flat route first as being heavier now than I was over the last few years is killing me on the hills. Of course, the best training for hills is to ride hills.

horatio 05-15-11 04:18 PM

15 mile recovery ride today, not counting the two miles I rode with my wife in our neighborhood. Sunny and about 80 degrees at the time, with a 10 mph headwind/crosswind on the outbound leg. I had to force myself to ride below Zone 2. Taking in more of the scenery helped.

CraigB 05-15-11 04:21 PM

I had wanted to ride an organized metric about 40 minutes north of Indy but it was cold, rainy and foggy this morning (with two of those conditions continuing through the day), so I bagged it. I was really looking forward to it, but not enough to be miserable while doing it.

teachme 05-15-11 06:01 PM

5 miles this morning, 5 miles midday and 10 miles this evening. 20 miles for the day.

Total miles for this month: 57
Total miles for the year: 57

jppe 05-15-11 06:21 PM

Another century-107 miles but this one only had about 6000 ft of climbing. For the life of me you'd think I'd start dropping a few pounds. I'm getting really tired of lugging this extra Mud and Snow Tire that's around my waist up and down these darn hills.

kajero 05-15-11 08:34 PM

30 miles today. It was fun, but quite an adverture!. As well as fighting the wind I could never figure out what trail or road to take. I must have spent an hour looking at maps. Reading the maps didn't do much good 'cause I got lost anyway.I didn't wind up where I was supposed to. Might be looking into getting a garmin or a phone that can give me directions
