80 miles today in the Santa Monica mountains with the club. Felt better than I deserved to and am quite hungry just now.

I also rode near a San Gabriel river, but one in Texas. 23 miles, rolling hills and farmland, temp around 58-60deg, wind about 10mph. Only saw one other cyclist, but 2 ladies on horseback. A cycling glove that I saw when crossing the highway on Thursday was still there, so I rode the shoulder and found its mate, took them home and posted on craigslist in case the owner is looking for them.

I'm almost embarrassed to say, but I did get my 14 mile ride in today. I couldn't wear shorts-only though, as it was 34 degrees F outside, with freezing fog and ice on the wooden walkway. But I had a great ride.

47.6 miles. I kept up with the big boys for the first 5 miles@25 mph, then dropped off and averaged 15 for the rest. Now I need to decide if I want to participate in the 60k race next week.

I'm curious, Ten Wheels, why you guys are so heavily loaded for your century. Just for the extra challenge?

Three hours of mountain biking in the Mohican Forest. It was under a clear blue sky, no winds, 2" of snow and a high temperature of 22 degrees.

Pressed for time, I had just a short ride this morning - 10 miles on the MTB on packed snow trails, up and down the Mississippi river. As always, I'm slow as a turtle on my 2.1" knobby (studded) tires, but I enjoy the ride. It was 8-10 °F, but sunny and windless and I wasn't at all cold - my biggest complaint is that I'm having fogging issues with my goggles.

Next weekend I'm spending 3 days in Las Vegas with a rented road bike. Boy, am I looking forward to that.

Today, 45.2 mi., avg. 16.8 mph. Temp. at beginning of ride 33*. When I arrived home at noon it was 39*. Sun was out, clouds west of us, but cold persevered. Very happy for layers, fleece, and faster riders with whom to keep up.

Rode with the bike club C group today out to Redlands and back. Then went out for a ride with my wife when ti warmed up a little 50F. A great day with a total of 54 miles and 784 feet of climbing.

17F on the ride to work this morning. The packed snow from a few days ago is getting compacted and turning into ice, and my Cygolite Dual Cross lights weren't enough to pick up where the ice patches were. I'm going to have to go with a secondary light mounted lower, maybe on the fork. Hope this will give me a better perspective. Anyone ever try this? I did see a red fox near the river and she didn't look to happy with the winter weather either. The Nokian 700C A10 studded tires are holding up remarkably well. I made good time, in part because I left the house at 6:00 am instead of 6:30. That half-hour give me just enough of a head start over the motor vehicle traffic that I get by the busiest spots before they are crowded. Looking forward to the commute home. I get to leave at 3:00 pm and the temp is projected to rise to 38F with sunny skies!

Did 17 miles (a fairly undisciplined mixture of intervals and JRA) at 6:00AM this morning. 23°F and pitch black when I started. Water bottle froze solid. My breath condensed on my beard & froze solid. I'm going back to read that "Where should I retire to?" thread some more.

Bob...Southwesr Florida is the place. I discovered late yesterday that I had a doctor's appt this morning. Left the cane and the car home and rode there. Forty miles round trip. 70 degrees, light wind from the South.

Yes! 45 miles with the Tuesday group. Lots of climbing, which I am getting stronger at. It was a good ride today, despite one of my girlfriends having a low speed crash (she's okay, mostly embarrassed). You just can't turn around on a steep hill in too tall a gear! Anyway...

15 easy miles on the tandem (for coffee). Just about all we can do during a slightly extended lunch hour. Finally the temps are moderating a bit. Must have been upper 40's!

I am behind a couple of days. Rode 61 on Saturday with one club ride @ 16.1 average.

On Sunday rode the Casa Grande century with the Bullshifters Bicycle club of Phoenix. It was the fastest I have ever ridden a century @ 17.3 ave. The ride is put on by the Phoenix Metro Bicycle Club, and is a well-run event. We kept a large paceline of about 20 until the first sag stop (and must have had a 19+ ave for that). After the first sag we broke into 2 pacelines. I was in the somewhat slower group. I am proud to add that I did take the pull several times.

Most of our group had ridden a 200k brevet on Saturday, so they had an extra 60 miles on me and a few others.

A short 10 mile loop today in 34 degree cloudy weather - mostly because my wife said I'd be crazy to ride so I wanted to prove her right. My normal "rules" for riding are: dry roads, over 40 degrees, and (wind < 10 OR sunny), so by my normal rules it failed. You guys in cold climates will probably laugh, but I decided I have the right to be warm as I get older.
Partly I wanted to check if my clothes were up to the task. Shoes, tights, jacket and skull cap were fine. The only disappointment was my Pearl Izumi Cyclone gloves; even with a liner, my fingers were freezing and getting numb. I think I need mittens or thick gloves below 40.
Luckily my jacket had front pockets, so I alternated riding one-handed on each side. I discovered that doing so also gives a better workout of the core muscles than 2-handed riding, which made me happy.

34 degrees /freezing fog and ice. You Da Man. I don't think you would catch me out in that kind of weather.

I cut the ride short from the cold. I guess I need to toughen up a lot compared with some of you. 60+ miles.
