[QUOTE Can't figure it out. Thinkin it must've been the wimpy breakfast.[/QUOTE]

I eat a double portion of oatmeal every day for breakfast with a full cup of blue berries sweetened with Splenda . For me that gets me thur just about any ride I do with lots of energy and NO sugar crashes . Iam diabetic so have to watch and be sure to eat and not crash the oatmean meal works out great for me ! I also eat 2 slices of toast a 5 gram per slice fiber bread . So by after breakfast iam well on my way to the fiber needs to kill cholestorol .

Holy crap I eat that same thing all the time. Great taste, takes almost as many calories to digest it as what is in it.

Gotta love that Fibre bread, tastes a little like frozen pizza, where often if you want taste, throw away the pizza and eat the box it came in..... Blueberries, shouldn't need additional sweetening, maybe it's those marbles that pass for blueberries, being shipped half way around the world.... If you look at the latest diabetic research, your best to eat smaller meals more often, then non-diabetics, to keep your sugars level and in the right range. My SO who is diabetic was told by the local diabetic clinic to eat 45g of carbs for every meal 3 times a day (we are expecting) and go on insulin. The latest research is to eat 30g and then add 15g later with a snack, to keep the sugars more even, she has been doing that and staying pretty much in the proper range, even going off her diabetic meds.

Yesterday my friend and I went for what was supposed to be an easy 6 mile ride. She towed a 4-yr old in a bike trailer and her 5- and 7-year-olds rode on their own (crappy) bikes.

2 miles into the trip, the handlebar snaps completely off the 5-yr-old's bike. We left the bike at a dumpster and loaded him into the trailer. Unfortunately his size and weight was just too much for my friend to tow along with the 4-yr-old, and she gave up after a mile or so. We ended up sitting him on my rear rack and I rode him the 3 miles home.

Besides being illegal, this was so scary. Though we stayed off main roads I was still afraid the whole time. But we made it safely home. Now we just need to find a replacement bike for him.

No riding again today because of bad weather and this cold I got a few days ago. I'm hoping I will be well enough tomorrow to do some riding, even a slow ride would do.

nutmegTN 07-01-11 04:37 PM

Hope you feel better soon, John_V!

as I had an 8:30 breakfast appointment, I split my ride. 10 miles before breakfast on the MUP starting at 6:30 am, and 10 miles after breakfast at the state park up the road. Yes, I CAN get a road bike in the backseat of a Neon!! :)

Another gorgeous day for commuting. 10.76 miles in, 14.43 miles back.
Headlights, 6 AM mists and blinkies on the way to work.
95 degrees, intense sunshine and not a breath of wind on the way back, save that which I made myself.
More hills than flats - both ways.

It is good to be over 50.

42 Sun filled miles, no clouds 78 to 88 degrees with a slight breeze. Headed to the coast at 9:45 AM, felt ok, just not fast, but had a lot of endurance. Lots of people out on the mups, beach, having fun. Tried not eating anything before my ride and did not feel hungry at all. Just ate some rasins ate the pier, drank water and gatorade.

10 Wheels 07-01-11 06:58 PM

40 miles, got up to 20 mph. Returned home at 12N 100* Sunny.

Red Rider 07-01-11 09:57 PM

35 Tandem miles today, including a hill (Cantelow) we haven't done on the tandem in a year or so. Avg. 9% grade, we climbed it in the middle chainring. Granny didn't show up on this ride.

BluesDawg 07-01-11 11:59 PM

I rode a short and easy 5 mile cruise around town with my club celebrating Georgia's new law requiring drivers to give cyclists 3 feet of clearance when passing. I rigged my bike with a yard stick with flashing lights hanging off the back to show just how much 3 feet is. After the ride we went to a downtown pub for food and drinks.

Today’s ride:

Rode with the Dick Davidson again today, it was an excellent but warm ride. I did a 62 + mile ride and Dick had about 44 miles. I started at 5:30 this morning to get in some extra miles and possibly beat the heat that we were supposed to have today. I road about 17 miles before heading to the 436 trail head to meet with Dick Davidson at 7:00 AM. We did the normal ride to Panera Bread for breakfast and decided to ride through Heathrow to the horse farms. I had my Flying WV jersey on today and as we were having breakfast a young girl came over to our table and asked me if I was from West Virginia and I replied that I was. Turns out that her father was the WV Mountaineers football QB in the early 60s when I went to school up there. It is amazing how many people I meet when I wear the WV jersey. It’s a small world

Red Rider 07-02-11 02:19 PM

Today's ride was on half-bikes, 42.5 miles in western Solano/eastern Napa counties on what's locally known as the Gordon Valley loop. Hot, brilliant sun, not a cloud in the sky -- the quintessential summer ride.

JanMM 07-02-11 03:09 PM

54 hot and humid miles on a club ride in the country. One significant hill that keeps showing up on many rides in this general area - it's deceptively steep but thankfully not long. I've learned to gear way down for it - can't get out of the saddle on a 'bent.

Thank you NutmegTN.

Wow! A break in the weather today. Felling much better than I have been this past week with this cold, so the wife and I went to our regular MUP and did a slow 15 miles at 10-12 mph. We would have done more but she is still trying to get used to her new recumbent. I'm still a bit congested to ride the road bike at any decent pace, so I took the hybrid and it was very enjoyable. Cool, overcast and NO SUN until after we got done riding. Going again tomorrow and hope to take the road bike out.

Oh, yes! 46 hard miles with a group that is getting stronger by the ride! We're close to hitting mid season form. We averaged 14.3 MPH (there is some chatting, and there were 13% grades), but when we hit the flats we were moving along at 20MPH plus, and using a pace line whenever we could. I was gapped on the way back while riding at that speed into a stiff headwind and I could NOT pull myself back to the group! I also dropped a chain on a climb (darn it!!) and had to fight my way back from that. All in all, though, it was a really good workout, and though I'm getting stronger, the others in the group are, too, and they seem to stay a step ahead of me!

19 miles on an "errand" run for the daughter in TN. , found the bank she uses closed, rat's, went to a Italian Restaurant, had awesome bread sticks and split a sandwich with the wife. HOT, 90's but still enjoyed the ride. :)

BikeWNC 07-02-11 07:02 PM

Rode our mtbs over the mountain from the NC side into Cade's Cove Tn in GSMNP this morning. We rode 30 miles and climbed almost 4000', saw two bears, lots of deer and turkey too. Great morning for a ride.

Oh, and just 2 cars!

Barrettscv 07-02-11 07:07 PM

A 70 mile ride at a slower pace. For some reason, I lacked drive today.

DnvrFox 07-02-11 07:14 PM

7 miles with wife, snack, another 13 miles. Full resistance workout in am, stretching.

alfredo 07-02-11 08:15 PM

41 miles along the American river and the Folsom South Canal. I started early, but not early enough to beat the heat.

I imagine you weren't too hungry after that. Probably met your daily requirement for fiber, too.

No biking for me today, what with a 24 hr shift at work.

JimF22003 07-03-11 02:22 AM

Went up to Thurmont MD very early in the morning. I was "trying" to follow the Civil War Century route by using a computer-generated cue sheet I got from ridewithgps.com

Mostly things went well. The route had a few differences (improvements) from what I remember, especially at the start. Maybe they changed this last year when I wasn't able to ride because I was out of town.

The cue sheet had a couple of "turn rights" when it should have been "turn lefts" and some "take first lefts" when they really meant "take the second left."

So I ended up doing 112 miles instead of 105 or 108 or whatever the actual route distance was.

Highlights:

1) riding through Gettysburg and past the THOUSANDS of CW re-enactors. The traffic was backed up for miles. So I just rode around 'em. Sweet :)
2) The bridge on Taneytown Rd over Rt 15 was out. I tried sneaking across it past the construction barriers, but when I got there it was completely impassable. So instead of taking the hairy detour on Rt 15, I just rode down the ramp, and hiked across the divided four-lane road and back onto the other side. A little bit of 'cross action there with my bike on my shoulder.

Lowlights:
1) Despite having two water bottles, I neglected to fill up at Gettysburg (I just wanted to get out of there because of the traffic.) Then because I got more or less lost heading back towards Thurmont, because of the bad cue sheet issue, I got waaaay dehydrated. Out in the 92 degree sun, lots of humidity, I came near to heat exhaustion. I'm usually pretty careful about this stuff, but it is really easy to get into trouble on a day like this.

Did Glendora Mountain Road last night with a 6:30 start. Was still a little warm but made the top and had a great ride down as it got dark. Road is closed to cars for the holiday weekend, so that was nice. Burritos after the ride capped a great evening.:50:
