8.29 miles last night, averaging 15 mph. Did about a mile at just over 22 miles per in 53-12, felt really good!!! Back at it again tonight.........

Was planning on a 30+ mile ride but 18 miles in I heard thunder and saw some lightning so I headed home. Then NOTHING! No rain. No more thunder or lightning. Didn't need to come back early. Makes me mad.

You heard the thunder and I got the rain. Worked from home and all ready to head out to the park to do my daily 20 mile ride when it stated raining pretty hard. By the time it stopped raining it was a little too late to go ride at the park, so I decided to stay home. The wife got home early so after dinner we did our usual 10 mile neighborhood ride, so it wasn't all bad. Let's see what tomorrow will bring.

Hottest day in 23 years in Indy today: 100F. :eek:

Waited until almost 9pm to get out for a 10 mile spin. Felt great after not riding at all yesterday.

47 miles including 38 in a fast club ride out to the western suburbs. The heat wave that's about to grip the East has left the northern midwest and we had nearly perfect weather tonight. Ride was with 9 other guys, virtually all of whom I think of as much faster than me, but I had no trouble putting in a respectable contribution. The ride wasn't particularly intense - there were lots of serious sprints, but no long extended periods of HTFU. The weather and the ride together made me very happy.

I had a thought whilst drafting a guy I don't know very well: you know that somebody has strong legs when you are riding behind them and you can see large portions of their quads.

Our singing group traveled to Allens Park - high in the Colorado mountains about 2 hours away - where we had lunch provided by one of our participants at his cabin and sang to a community group of about 60 folks.

We had a GREAT time.

The really fun part is that the gentleman who has the cabin with his mother (86) was born with significant brain damage, has had a most difficult childhood, and this group is likely the only social group in which he has received full acceptance and participation. The neat thing is he has a really good voice.

So, it was a winner all the way 'round. A great audience, really good performance, wonderful lunch, and a day in the mountains!

What a shame to lose someone who has made such an enduring contribution, for such an irrelevant reason!

Grampa is severely dyslexic. He's been very successful in a career that requires highly technical training, but he's too embarrassed to let anyone see anything he's written. It took years before he would leave notes for me on the kitchen table. It took more years before I understood how stupid you feel when you can't write a simple sentence correctly. Now we chuckle over "Get braed" and "Cleaned cat puck on rug." (Didn't know our cat had taken up hockey. Now if she'd only put away her gear after games!)

I haven't yet seen a post where someone said, "Wow, what a worthless little short, easy bike ride. You must be a real slob. And that poor excuse for a bicycle!" This group is wonderful for encouraging everyone's efforts and progress.

The number of people who post compared to the number who don't is very small. One reason, I suspect, is because even a simple comment, perhaps poorly expressed, will, with some frequency, draw surprisingly vicious verbal harassment. I'm always surprised and taken aback by this. I suppose there are those who feel a need to pump themselves up through the means of belittling others. My former psychiatrist business partner would say such harassers have self esteem issues of their own.

What I like best about the 50+ is politeness so we all just get along. My measure of a good forum is whether or not women feel welcome.

My ride yesterday evening was marred at the end by a honking, EXTREMELY foul-mouthed driver going off on me when I made my right turn into the complex. It really made no sense because I slowed down for the turn much less than a car would have, and I signaled my turn in advance and everything.

So many drivers in Memphis feel the need to honk and yell at bikers to get on the sidewalk! I don't understand it at all. It's really starting to irritate me to get honked and yelled at for doing absolutely nothing wrong.

17 miles on the 'bent today. Getting better. Included a couple of significant hills. Yea me!!

I'm awfully sorry about that Nutmeg. There is nothing we can do about people like that except provide a better example of how to behave.

If there is one thing I have learned after 50 years on this sod, life is too short to let some idiot bully ruin a perfectly good ride. When they throw meanness at you, throw back kindness, it drives them nuts. I didn't ride today, got home from work, the missus announced we were going into the city, got to the city and the stupid car decided the $411 brake job wasn't enough of our too little funds wasted on it this week, decided to blow the alternator, if we are lucky that's another $400 plus $60 for the tow.....

Put on my Bike Commuter hat (helmet) today- 19.5 miles total on another Heat Alert day. High of 97F, I think. Again drank almost 2 bottles of water on the ride home.

Yeah, I don't get some people. I had a guy flip me off yesterday, and he was going the opposite direction in the oncoming lane.

I rode 10 miles today, half of my usual Saturday distance. Like 2/3 of the nation, we are in the midst of a historical heat wave. I am very cautious about the heat: in high school, I collapsed and almost died from heat stroke suffered during a cross-country training run. It is supposed to be cooler tomorrow, if 90 degrees can be thought of as cool. Hopefully I can get a longer ride in.

93 degrees and 60% humidty at 10:30 am,This heat is hard for me to ride in! I was working in the yard for a little while and came in soaked from sweat! I'm ready for the heat to move on. I'm in central Missouri

I hear that rgp,did get a 19 miler in this morning.But still very humid.Next week its going to be better.

42 miles with a few good hills at a comfortable pace. My riding partner was struggling a little, so I stayed with him. Started at 7:30 with temps in high 70s rising to about 90. Very humid. Finished strong.

About 65F went with wife a few miles, she returned and I continued 20 miles, went to store for fruit, came home, 80F at finish, humidity almost to 30%!!! What a hot day :)

Rode a little over 5 miles with a friend. It is a pretty day but so very hot -- my computer said 94f. As I was straining to climb the little hill near home, I was passed by two roadies who were barely pedaling. They smiled and said hello but all I could do was grunt and moan at them. One turned back, did a thumbs up, and said, "You're almost there!"

What a nice change from honking drivers.

Beautiful day for riding today. Started off in the mid 70's. Haven't seen temps like that in months. Got to the mid 80's by the end of the ride. My wife and I went to our usual wilderness park MUP. A little crowded, but I have seen worse. Ended up doing 32 miles. I'm so proud of my wife. Today she broke her personal best of 22 miles on her recumbent trike and went just over 25 miles with two stops. She'll have that 50K September charity ride in her pocket if she keeps this up.
